I am going to start using them again since I feel like I'm about
to flare and have seen some blood in my solid stools. My lower intestines are gurgling like crazy. It feels like it's gurgling right above my rectum area. It's like there's a little witch in there with a bubbling cauldron.
I will probably use the enema till symptoms go away but for maintenance does anyone do it like once every 2 weeks with success? I don't mind doing it once or twice a week but would rather do it less.

If I'm doing really well I try to do it once a week, but usually forget and it ends up being every 10-14 days. Works well for me in combination with my other stuff that works.

The trick is the tapering. Your butt will tell you how much you can use for maintenance, basically.
I used to always taper to once a week only....but for a while I couldn't get past every 3 nights...probably because of my periods.
After fruitgirl came on and found research for twice a week that showed better maintenance schedule than tapering off or even to once a week. So, I stick with that. I do wish there was research on that when I first started...but not to say that anything I was doing was "wrong". I had long periods of not flaring...but I also had a lot going on that I ended up flaring and back to nightly.
It's your choice, obviously....but if you choose to ignore a schedule, skip too many times, you'll probably end up flaring.
By the way, I use a calendar to mark the days I use my meds (that are a varied schedule)..that includes the enemas, no matter the dosage taper or maintenance.
To add...no matter what YOU want, your butt rules as to what IT needs.

Thanks hekela. Thats probabllyy what i will aim for.
Quincy. On average how long do you use the enemas before you feel you can go back too maintenance mode? 2-3 weeks?
I only go once a day but my lower intestine has been going nuts with gurgling and i started to see blood in my stool.

Use them nightly till you have NO symptoms. Then go to every second night. If all is good for about
3 weeks, then go to every third night.
It's not the maintenance dosage that's the goal...it's the process getting there.
On average..well, my flares are very, very mild....but now, I'd stay at nightly for at least 2 weeks, then every second night for the same.
Once I was on them nightly for 4 months. So, you see, it varies.
I've been at this for 24+ years....and I remember the first time using them as if it were yesterday.

It's a learning curve, and I tried different methods of tapering...some slow, some fast, some really slow, some really fast. As I said...your butt rules.
Keep us posted how you're doing.

I use enemas only when needed, not on a schedule at all. Generally when I see blood which usually follows eating something objectionable (not to my taste buds, just my colon). Same with Canasa (Salofalk generic from Canada) only when needed.
When things are back to normal I stop enemas.

Thank you ima. I appreciate your post.
Quincy, do you ever wonder how he rowasa gets different sides of the colon or does it just pool and get one side of your colon. If you lay on your left side that is. Maybe it spreads on its own?

Your colon isn't
open all the time....so it sort of sits "collapsed". The rhythmic movement (peristalsis) is what moves things along.
So, it'll coat the whole area where it's inserted. Some of my stools are fully coated, some are just on one side, some are interspersed ...I think that depends on how much stool is taking up space (probably in the sigmoid) when I use the enema.

So the Rowasa is working great. One question though. I have solid bms but at the tail end of the bm there is a smidgen of blood. Nothing seems to be on the rest of the poop. Is this hemorrhoids or still a little inflammation? Maybe people can chime in. I do have hemorrhoids but just got out of a mini flare.
