C reactive protein level

Hello everyone,

I just saw my GI for the first time in awhile last week. I had a scope done in August that showed only one small patch of mild inflammation on the right side of my colon. At the appointment, they drew blood to test for different things, including my C reactive protein level. It came back at 23, which is considered high. I don't have any major symptoms going on (some constipation, but no pain or blood/mucus), so I was surprised to find out that it was elevated.

Would you be concerned if your level was at 23? I'm not currently on any meds and didn't react well to 5 ASAs when I tried them when first diagnosed.

What did you do to get where you're at? I guess the crystal ball question really is, "Are you going to get worse"? If so then I would worry. If this was your norm then maybe you don't have to worry. Do you have any test results from the past?

I have been in remission (or at least it feels that way- 1 to 2 bm a day, no blood, mucus, ect.) for about 6 years after changing my diet (limited processed foods, trying a somewhat modified Paleo at the moment) and using Bee Propolis.
I'm not really concerned that I'm going to get worse as I feel fine for the most part, and wouldn't have known that there was any issue if it weren't for this test. I, unfortunately, don't have any other test results to compare to.

The GI I use is always more concerned with "how do I feel" than what my blood tests actually show.

My C-reactive is currently 39 and my sed rate is 56.... I feel crappy.

I've had sed rates in the 40's before and felt great with near remission.

@lefty8881, Only one small path of mild inflammation on the right side of your colon? Was that on Ascending or Cecum? Inflammation only in the right side of your colon and you were diagnosed with UC?
CRP doesn't always show correct results for the inflammation. For me my rectum was severely inflamed and the CRP showed normal. I don't know why.

But I would like to hear from you on the type of IBD you have.

Do you know that your CRP should be less than 3, and you are close to 8X of that level. Although it should be less than 3 on paper, all my GIs said, it should be less than one.

Now the question is,
- How long you are diagnosed, with what form?
- What are the medications
- How old are you, M/F?
- What is your lifestyle, food like
- What other diagnosed conditions do you have

That said, CRP is NOT an indicator for everyone. Even during worse flares, my CRP has always been less than 1, so CRP is useless in my case.
what I am more worried about, other than UC, which other part of your system is so inflamed. You should seriously look into it. Do you have any family history of inflammatory conditions? or Alzheimers/Parkinsons/Chronic fatigue syndrome/Lupus/Heart issues etc. etc.
