Specifically in the San Francisco/San Mateo/Palo Alto areas.

My current doctor is very hard to reach and it's inconvenient when I'm having a flareup.

i'm assuming if you're having a frequent enough need to get a hold of your doc in the first place to make slow response an issue, doesn't seem like your uc is being managed very well - that would be why I would be looking for another one -

Have you tried UCal/SF gastroenterology dept.? They have MDs who focus on IBD treatment, such as Uma Mahadevan. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Stanford University Med Center. In 2011 Shamita Shah was clinical director of the IBD program.

Since you mention Palo Alto have you been there? What is it like, I wonder.

That's where I would like to be seen. But I am not real close and have the wrong HMO. Is your GI in solo practice? The generalist GI's don't see a lot of IBD and it shows.

To be enrolled in a program that deals specifically with IBD would be a dream come true--well, kind of.

Santa Clara Kaiser head of GI dept Dr Ready has been treating me since I was diagnosed (2004). She is really good. A bit old school, won't suggest anything outside of western medicine, but will listen and is open to you trying out herbal and other things. I have never had any problem getting hold of her by email, or a quick phone call, or in person.

UCSF has a top GI department. Dr. Medavhen (spelling?) comes highly rated.
