im slowly but surely recovering from (what i would consider) a pretty bad flare. but im craving sushi! cooked sushi of course, i never eat the raw ones! basically what im asking is if anybody has had bad experiences with the seaweed or even the cooked fish. i know not everybody will tolerate everything the same but just wanted to hear some experiences before i make up my mind. thanks!

Eat it for goodness sakes. Are you not reading the food threads on here as of late? only you can eat it and see how you feel afterward.
The worst that can happen is you don't like the taste, and you might get gas from seaweed or something in it...it's not going to make your UC worse or you flare, etc. Unless....the person who's making it just went to the bathroom or picked his/her nose and never washed hands...or...or...or....again, it wouldn't be the sushi then....
Personally I hate the stuff...I've only had cooked of course...but if I wanted it, I'd eat it. I couldn't give a crap if someone said "oooo, it has blah, blah and is a no-no for UCers"....
DO NOT CONFUSE FOOD SYMPTOMS WITH UC SYMPTOMS.
Because everyone has foods that disagrees with them.
Enjoy, and make the decision for yourself.

I love sushi and have had zero issues with it. The only foods I have problems with are Curry and Chili. Then again, my Curry and Chili gave me problems when I was in remission too.

I eat it too, cooked & raw. Never gave me any problems, I find it easier to digest than most foods. Really, you're eating small amounts of fish & rice, with the tiniest piece of greens (seaweed), some vinegar & salt. What's to cause any indigestion???? And the pickled ginger is good for digestion.

personally, I am not going to take the parasite risk. I know its small, but just not something I need to be dealing with.

thanks everyone for such quick replies! like i said, i know not everybody will tolerate every thing the same but for a lot of people with uc things that are very spicy or milk products don't agree with them. i was just making sure either the fish or the seaweed wasn't one of those foods that don't sit well with most. im gonna try it, im tired of the bland food I've been eating. *fingers crossed* thanks again everyone!!

at the height of my flair, lean meats and fish, and some rice, were all I ate.
when I started eating out, I went 1st for sushi. My favorite was salmon skin roll. The Omega-3 plus rice plus ginger was a win-win-win. I avoided the wasabi.
@jc1973: there are many cooked varieties (broiled, tempura fried), as well as pickled, and even vegetarian. basically anything on a rice ball is sushi - which translated is "rice ball". all of these cooked ingredients are also available in rolls.

when im not in a flare i will probably never second guess decisions on food and am just gonna eat what i want to eat. but even if there's 100% proof that food has nothing to do with symptoms i would still be iffy about
some things while in a flare. i mean drinking a bottle of hot sauce doesn't seem like something any UCer would volunteer to do lol. that would hurt anyone! lol just being cautious for now.

Some sushi has chili sauce and some have an orange sauce on top that can be spicy. For myself, I avoid the spicy stuff.
Fish and rice work very well with me. I am not aware of any infection risk that exists with cooked fish.
When I was in the hospital recently with a flare, the nutritionist gave me fish, chicken, eggs and rice. That's about
all I had for 2 weeks.
The seaweed wrap is a small volume. If I had a concern about
the veggies, I would take an extra enzyme supplement to digest it into oblivion, and of course chew my food well. I take Garden of Life Omegazyme brand.

Might just be a coincidence but the last thing I ate before I had my recent (horrible) flare was cooked sushi... and that was when all the urgency started! Like I said, probably a coincidence since I've had sushi many times before without any problems. But personally I am now scared of it.

Last time I flared, I had mexican food the day before. It was such a quick onset and my health deteriorated so quickly. I still remember what place I ate at and I won't go back... I know logically it makes no sense. Of course I eat tons of mexican food elsewhere.

I love sushi and sashimi and it it occasionally with hot saki! I try not to eat too much soy though.
I love me a good hot saki high! ;-)

I've lived on sushi for weeks at a time.. just make sure if you buy it, that it is fresh and not kept overnight. Fresh is essential for sushi. Otherwise, it's light, easy to digest.
