Besides being sometimes associated with UC flares, night sweats can be a symptom of bacterial infections or tuberculosis, etc. I suffered drenching night sweats during my last flare. I wasn't taking prednisone or other drugs that might have caused it. And antibiotics were what finally jump-started me into remission from that flare.

Not everyone is helped by antibiotics. In fact antibiotics make most UCers worse. But my question is are there others who experienced night sweats during their flare that were not caused by the usual suspects such as prednisone? If so then maybe we are in the subset of UCers who can be helped by antibiotics.

I dunno, just guessing. That's why taking a poll.

I've had night sweats since I was diagnosed. obviously prednisone makes them worse, but they are just a typical UC symptom for me.

This is the first I've thought it could be from UC, but I have similar unexplainable night sweats sometimes. I'll have to keep better track of them to see if they correlate closely with my other symptoms. So far, it's just been me thinking I had too many blankets on.

my favorite nite sweets lately are anything from Glutino ! I know  I shouldn't but dang they are tasty :-)

I had it when I flared. Along with a temperature during the day. I was concerned about it because it can be a sign of lymphoma. But I was just delusional and thinking of the worst things at the time. lol

worse than the sweating which was bad enough, was the STINK ! man, I smelled like a homeless shelter locker room ! showering 2 or 3 times a day barely touched the stench - while i'm thankful that my body was doing it's job of trying to eliminate toxins from my sickly body, i'm sure the people that wandered into my smell of rotting flesh zone and unknowingly exposed to my reekiness were less appreciative !

Night sweats can also be caused by low sodium.  If you are not replacing the salt lost this can happen.

I mentioned this in another thread - Night sweats are most likely caused by blood sugar issues or reactive hypoglycemia. Have you tested your glucose levels or hemoglobin a1c recently? I was able to resolve my night sweats by reducing carbs and adding in more healthy saturated fats with each meal. Basically, more fat = better insulin sensitivity and less diabetic complications.

"Night sweats are generally a sign of hypoglycemia or other blood sugar issues. It could theoretically be the prednisone, but you'd have to wait after getting off to see if it goes away. Magnesium deficiency, among all the other deficiencies, is the biggest mineral deficiency that IBD patients have so that's my guess.

I've had some terrible sweat episodes in the past, but I've managed to control them by watching my carb intake. One thing that has helped me is transdermal magnesium oil - I use the swanson brand on amazon and it's worked wonders. Just apply 30-50 sprays over your body after a shower or before you sleep."

I had them bad a few months ago... now, not so much but here and there. God I hated that, waking up drenched.

I've been waking up soaked the past 2-3 nights also, & it's been going on this way the past month or so. I had to take a z-pack for a respiratory infection last month, & it may be related to that, as I'm still hacking stuff up... But, I've also had more than one doctor tell me it's just part of the disease process with UC. They suck!

Being anemic can cause night sweats too. (as per my hematologist) Many UC'ers are anemic. I have night sweats often....especially when my iron is really low.

I get this too, have for a few years now, I just figured it's my body trying to fight the disease, as they say when we're sleeping our bodies are trying to heal and that's why sleep is so important. I was never a sweater until I started working out, so I thought that might have something to do with it too. Years and years ago when I was on pred (before I started working out) I never got night sweats.
