I remember a while back we had a post discussing what we eat following a colonoscopy. For some it's our favourite comfort foods, for others it's something very light and gentle on the system.

I have a c-scope scheduled next week. My husband came home the other day pleased with himself because he had planned a special outing after my scope, something for me to look forward to. Going to a new pub that is just opening up for burgers & beer!

That kind of outing is definitely a treat... but, I had to gently explain, not right after a c-scope. Poor guy, he looked so crestfallen. shakehead

In 2012 I had a scope during the same week I was planning on a tasting with a caterer for a large event I was in charge of. The caterer screwed up his calendar and had to move the tasting to the night after my scope.

For me the biggest challenge with eating after a scope is I'm always nauseated by the anesthesia. This last time was especially bad because the prep gave me a migraine and I had demerol for 2 hours BEFORE my scope. My scope was over by 10 am but at 6 pm I was still horizontal on the couch trying hard not to vomit.

My husband and kids put me in the car and took me to the place where we were doing the tasting. Thank goodness there was a couch there. The poor caterer had set up a beautiful table and presented each dish to me in my horizontal pose so I could see how it looked. I tasted nothing. LOL.

Oh no! What a debacle! Lying down to do a tasting... LOL! Makes for a good story now but must have been an ordeal at the time.

I know that after my first scope I had grand ideas for what I was going to eat...but was too nauseated to eat anything more than a plain turkey sandwich. It's always such a disappointment because before hand everything just sounds amazing! Hopefully you get something tasty anyway :)

I had a turkey sub from jersey mikes after my last colonoscopy. It was fairly easy on my stomach, but mostly it was just what I'd been craving.

I remember eating macaroni & cheese. Man, I'd kill for some mac and cheese now :-(

I just had a colonoscopy yesterday and SO enjoyed me meal afterwards: A Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and whipped cream with a side of crispy bacon. YUM!

I also get sick after colonoscopies, unfortunately, so I don't eat for a few hours... And then it's something like mashed potatoes.

I was told you can ask for a Zofran tablet that dissolves under the tongue to prevent the nausea and vomiting. That's what I'm going to do next time.

I had a colonoscopy this past Friday. My wife had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich waiting for me when I got out. So good!

My colon needs to be soothed for at least a day following c-scope. Farina is the safest 1st meal for me afterward. Bacon, no way-- but I don't miss it any more, except for BLTs. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
