Just a question for anyone who feels like answering. Since you were diagnosed with UC, what foods do you miss the most that you had to eliminate from your diet? And were you ever able to add them back in?
Right now I kinda miss popcorn. Can't have it without being miserable all day with horrible cramps and diarrhea. It's just not the same going to the movies anymore and not getting popcorn. :( Pizza has also been a trigger for me and I miss it too.

mcdonalds big mac! i haven't officially eliminated mcdonalds from my diet, but been having a flare and haven't ate things like that. fast food will be one of the LAST things i attempt to add back lol. i can totally understand not feeling the same at the movies without popcorn! i use to get a small popcorn and a pickle and put some popcorn and a piece of pickle in my mouth. salty and sour! yum. now my mouth is watering haha.

First answer I always think of with this question: big glass of cold milk and hot fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts! I wonder if eating a dozen right before colonoscopy prep would mitigate most deleterious effects?
Mmmmmmm doughnuts

I'm in the midst of my first elimination diet in hopes to get this acute flare under control. I've eliminated dairy, wheat, corn and refined sugars...so far one thing that I'm craving so bad (and it's because I just saw a commercial) but that god awful stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut. I'm literally drooling over here just thinking about
how bad I want it...
I've had the disease for 4 years and have been hospitalized, failed on remicade and 6mp and never messed with my diet because I am stubborn and didn't want this disease to take something else from me. But, the modification does seem to be helping...never realized how much I love dairy lol.

LOL. I have often thought that many of us could just eat foods instead of taking the colonoscopy prep. I mean really, what's the difference? I had some great chili once which made a great colonoscopy prep.
I miss eating a lot of fruits, nuts, and also hate having to limit my fiber intake. I love fruits and nuts. Weirdly enough I can have small amounts of popcorn about
one time per month and eating a burger and fries is better for my system than eating a bunch of fruits, veggies, nuts, or fiber.

Rabbit- I felt the same way about
that stuffed crust pizza but if it makes you feel any better one of my friends said it wasn't good. Not sure how Pizza Hut could screw up cheese in the crust but that's what he said lol.

A warm brownie with vanilla ice cream with hot fudge. Strangely I never ate this all that much but if I could have anything to eat right now that is what I would eat. I also miss eating giant salads with crusty homemade bread.

speaking of pizza hut, i miss those boneless hot chicken wings! omg, they're great. i miss spicy anything really! im from new Orleans, we put hot sauce on top of hot sauce for crying out loud lol can't wait till i can introduce hot sauce back to my stomach. i hope it doesn't become one of those things that just never agree with my stomach again, i'd probably have to move out of state haha.

uuhhhh i miss my raw vegan days of eating huge banana smoothies and 1 lb salads of RAW spinach, avocados, zucchini, sundried tomatoes, and liquid aminos. i'm salivating just thinking about
it.
as for non vegan junk, i used to be OBSESSED with character
cookies. i'd get them from the giant eagle bakery. it's just two
cookies (i don't even care what kind) with icing in the middle and on top. the icing totally overwhelms the
cookies and you can hardly see them. it's a thing of beauty and will be the first thing i eat if i get my stupid colon out. in fact, i will buy and eat 20 of them in the store and love every second of it. i don't even care if i get an obstruction.

Oh my gosh yes spicy foods! I went to Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday and felt like such a loser ordering mild flavor wings. I was like this is pathetic but I don't want to be miserable.

When I was having to restrict my diet the thing I missed most was chiffon cake with a light custard, mousse or whipped cream filling.
UC hit me pretty hard in college so even though I'd always reacted to foods, my food reactions became too unbearable that I could no longer ignore them. Dairy was so hard but eventually I was able to make some pretty good non dairy chiffon cake. But when gluten, eggs and a million other things started bothering me almst 4 years ago, along with every spice.. I was so depressed. I loved food and a life without ever eating chiffon cake again was depressing. I'd been sick for so long at that point that when I went to the Fodmaps diet I never expected to be able to eat dairy or even gluten again, I just wanted to stop getting worse.
I never in a million years would have dreamed I could eat tiramisu made with the freshest ricotta and lightest chiffon cake, covered in whipped cream ever with no stomach upset.
I kept thinking it was a fluke for a couple months but my pushing the limits hasn't thrown me back into intestinal distress.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Cool thread.. picked up some very interesting food combo's here that sound pretty wicked. For me, just a nice triple cup of real Italian gelato (ice cream).

BEER! I eat just about
anything I want, but I cannot have alcohol. I never drank more than one beer week, but I sure do miss it. All of the seasonal ales coming out right now is so hard. :(
I do avoid onions, but I can't say I miss them.

Food has never affected my condition. I still continue to eat whatever food I want.

chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. Most people I work with have a candy bowl/jar that everyone shares. It's so hard for me to walk by and not grab one. Maybe one day.

I've been working on this list for a while.. still can't say it's perfect.. but I miss: pizza, oreos, m&ms, chicken finger subs, McDonald's double cheeseburger, mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Man, writing this might be the closest I've come to cheating my SCD dedication. Still hanging strong! I wonder how healthy threads like this can be

When I need to be careful (which luckily isn't 100% of the time) I miss pizza, popcorn, Emerald Dry Roasted almonds, fresh fruit.....and booze. Mmmm.....pizza is my weakness though. I torture myself by watching hours of Food Network and Travel Channel when I'm limited to liquids and bland foods.
