Does anyone know if taking metamucil caps will absorb the vsl? I try and take the fibre 2 hrs after vsl but was wondering if its possible for it to become less effective with fibre.
Thanks,
Currently in a weird "minor" flare.
IVIG, cortifoam, vsl, metamucil, and when I remember...omega 3, gse, turmeric

I think it'll feed the vsl....since fibre is a prebiotic.
I'd suggest taking the Metamucil with meals...then it acts and enhances the food.
How many and when are you taking?
explain weird minor flare...

Hi Quincy,
Thanks for the response. I don't know much about
prebiotics. Is this a good thing that it feeds the vsl?
I'm taking 5 pills in the morning. Currently 3 sachets of vsl throughout the day.
Weird minor flare...a gf bakery
opened up and I indulged or over indulged:(. I got so excited my the prospect of savoury food and having a day off of cooking. Since last week gurgling gas, horrid indigestion. That seems ok. Last 3 days severe urgency in the am where I purge mucus. Then normal bms. I had IVIG on Thursday so hopefully that's what keeping this minor rather than a 20-30 times a day. I've decided to use the vsl, fibre & cortifoam because I don't want this to get worse. Too scared. I haven't had these symptoms in over a year & this minor flare has me scared the poop outta me!

Maybe not a flare....could be that you're taking too many probiotics? Maybe the IVIG?
Yes, the prebiotics are food for the probiotics....
Take the Metamucil with food....
Better to get a hold of a minor flare than a major one....
Let me know how the next few days go.
Can you not take any mesalamine rectals?

Hi Quincy,
I'm beginning to think it's the VSL that's causing all the gas. Today is pretty bad and a change in symptoms. I had 2 normal bm's this morning but since then I've had some urgency to pass gas but now there's a bit of b and m. No stool. I barely had a spoon of soup down and my tummy was going and I ran to the bathroom. I'm afraid to stop the VSL for fear that this is heading to a bigger flare. The indigestion is bad too.
I only have cortifoam, no script
for mesalamine rectals. I've had huge problems with how uncomfortable they are and I could never hold it in for longer than an minute.
Keeping diet extremely plain and limited. I'm not very hungry anyway...although there is a post going about
peanut butter:)
Keeping the faith that this is just a tiny blip:)

Just cut back rather than stop.
As I suggested...take the fibre with your meals.
I forgot to ask if you built up to the amount of caps you're taking...how was that process?

Hi quincy,
Still having the same trouble. I'm now thinking ulcer? I've started activated charcoal, zantac and now beside me is a bottle of pepto. The gas and acid pressure is horrible. I feel the gas build up, I run to the bathroom, pass gas, which is b and flaky stool then have a regular bm. This last time the pressure was building up I was spitting saliva in the garbage while pooping.
I stopped the vsl yesterday. I was taking the fiber 5 caps but have decided to stop that now too. Still using the cortifoam. I'll give it another few days but may need to visit the doc if this doesn't subside. It's been about
a week:(

It's good to stop things for a while.....but I'd nix the charcoal and the Pepto and stick to the Zantac twice a day.
Tell me again about
the process you used to take the fibre supplements.

VSL3 made me much worse and I'm still paying for it. Cramping and watery diarrhea.

Quincy- pepto is the only thing helping right now. I can literally feel the gas build up and creep up in my rib cage when I use the bathroom.
Yesterday I had very loose stools, likely from stopping the fiber and vsl. Last night I re-started the vsl (1 pouch) and this am formed and normal, but for this wretched gas pain.
As far as the fibre....I think it was you years ago that told me about
using supplements before I went on a trip for a job interview. I've been using it off and on, when needed ever since. And I'm so grateful. When I feel rumbling, or stool isn't formed I usually take 5 caps at lunch and that helps immensely.
I won't be visiting that gf bakery again! My own fault, I ignored the warning signs and kept eating....

When using fibre supplements, it should be a slow increase, with meals. I'd also suggest taking them spread out throughout the day as to not add more gas or cramping.
Maybe you can try another probiotic?
Are you using the steroid enema and Canasa?
