Night sweats :(

Does anybody here have night sweats, and how do you deal with them? For the past three years almost every night I wake up soaking wet. I sweat so much in my sleep that everything around me is wet. The sheets, the pillows, my partner... Everything! Than we both have to get up in the middle of the night, and change our clothes and sheets before we go back to sleep. And then in the morning when I wake up, everything is wet again... And in winter when its cold, I wake up wet and shivering since I'm cold. I tried not to drink any fluids hours before I go to sleep, but that doesn't help at all. This is probably one of the things in my illness that bothers me most, especially since its messing up my partners sleeping cycle too. Any advice?

I used to get them all the time...they suck. It's due to many things, the illness itself, the meds, anemia. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. If you are on prednisone, that's probably the worst culprit.

I get them too, not even on RX, and been having them for years (flaring of course).

Thanks for the tips guys. I am definitely going to try them starting tonight. Aside from being unpleasant and annoying, both my GIs weren't concerned it was a sign of something alarming or unusual happening with my body. In the past three years there were short periods when the sweats would stop, the longest being when I was on Pred last year (which put me in remission for a few months - the only remission I achieved), so go figure... I am flaring bad now, waiting to start Pred/Imuran combo after New Year, and spend five days in a hospital, and I am sweating like crazy. Hopefully it will resolve when I get better from my new therapy. As for my partner, we do use separate covers, but he always ends up curling under mine blanket in his sleep, so its his fault lol.

silver, i can totally relate to you so you're not alone. this just seems to be a normal thing with UC.

i was getting night sweats for a while- just from having inflammation- makes me really hot in general. prednisone and c diff make it even worse. i still wear shorts going out places because i am like a heater. i just never get cold... except when i wake up from the night sweats drenched and the fan is blowing on them. then i start shivering haha it's like a lose lose situation.

my doctor has done a bunch of thyroid tests because he knows about my "heat intolerance." i don't have this problem so much anymore but i would always carry ice packs with me.

i remember earlier this year in february, i was just out of the hospital on antibiotics for c diff and i needed to open a new bank account. i went into the bank with my water, ice packs, tank top, and shorts. the lady helping me wanted to show me all this stupid crap i didn't need and these different types of accounts. since it was february, they had cranked the heat up so high and i was already sweating buckets just driving to the bank. after about 30 minutes of hell, i was almost hanging my head off of the lady's desk. i was also severely anemic at the time (had 2 blood transfusions a week before) and i just told her to i needed to leave if it was going to take any longer. when i got out of the door, i just stood there for a few minutes in the snow. i'm actually surprised i didn't just jump in it and start making snow angels.

If you guys figure out what's wrong with us heat freaks, I'd love to know!

I don't even wear a coat outside here in Wisconsin most of the winter. I run around the house nekkid with the heat off! lol.

My husband calls me his little oven...

And silver, I am with ya in the summer... crawling around like a whiney useless snake, lol.

I think one good thing about losing almost 30 lbs now is that I do actually sweat a little bit less.

I just got up from a nap a bit ago and it seemed only the front of me decided to sweat like crazy while I slept :D

Growing a tail... oh man! Yeah my husband has seen me at my worse, so I don't think he's impressed by me naked anymore. He's been in the same room as me while having "accidents" too many times to possibly think I am very sexy, lol!

Poor guy. Such a good sport though. My hubs has a harder time with my fatigue and depression than the poop stuff. I can sweat all over him or crap my pants in the car and he's fine with it, though. And luckily for me, hilarious. Nothing like crying with poop in your pants and then laughing and trying not to poop more. haha :D

My husband is my biggest support.... I dont have much of a support system (hence why I'm on healingwell all the time!! lol) so I am very thankful for that.
And a sense of humor.

So so so glad for my sense of humor. Even when I'm crying or things are really bad... i can't help but crack a really funny joke if I set myself up for it by accident. lol.

For sure Dude. Us UCers might poop ourselves and be side effect maniacs on drugs... but, some of us walk around the house naked alot :D

Oh, btw Dude: naked sweaty men and women! Not just women UCers are blessed with the ability to be a little oven ;)

You are welcome to stay at my place anytime. Just be aware that I live in an one bathroom apartment. Two UCers sharing one bathroom can really be challenging to say the least lol. Actually I left Bosnia 22 years ago when the war started, and moved back seven months ago. I barely know anyone here. They have the most amazing cuisine here. Now if only it was only pleasant coming out as it is going in lol...
