I've been sleeping in the living room on the floor to take care of my back. So I have to go in the AM. I'm tired, I wait a bit (always a mistake). Sleeping on my side because of sciatica. (maybe stirred the bowels) Not easy to get up (stiff). A recipe for an accident especially when the bathroom is not close to the living room.

So yes, I had urgency, and I didn't make it into the toilet because my husband as usuall left the seat up and I threw it down at the same time I squatted. Then I sat on the lid and yuck. Has anyone ever done this? Men, please put the toilet seat down after you use it!!!

So I get all cleaned up, and go back to really give the toilet a good cleaning, and I'm feeling that I stained the plastic lid of the toilet.

Is that possible? If so, what should I do besides soft scrub that won't ruin it.

Hope I didn't gross you out too much. I haven't had an accident in quite a while.

I sympathize with you... I hate that feeling. It's devastating when you don't make it. :(


Is it a white toilet seat? Bleach can get it off. It takes stains off of the seats, but I use it undiluted and then rinse, rinse, rinse. Just get some good gloves... You don't want that on your hands.

Meslamine does stain quite terribly and it is the active ingredient in your Lialda, Canasa, and Rowasa, so if I were to point a finger at a cause it would be that Meslamine. I know from experience that if not cleaned up promptly, Meslamine can leave a terrible stain on fabric (clothing), painted drywall, and on a wooden painted toilet seat. Certain cleaners, such as bleach, will turn Meslamine dark black or dark brown, making stains much, much more obvious.

Make sure to wipe up Meslamine quickly, and rinse and then wash clothing promptly for the best chance of saving it. I think some or most of us have all stained and lost something due to our medicine lol.

Sounds like some times in my past. It's really incredible how much a second or a half second makes when it comes to urgency. Been there, done that. I like to leave the top part of the toilet up but my wife doesn't like that. There have been times I had similar to yours just trying to pick that top part of the toilet seat up. I don't think she had a clue how much of a difference that made for me.

Name brand magic eraser can get any stain out! And if it cant, a new lid/seat is less than $20 :)

This is my biggest fear... sitting on the lid and pooping... luckily we have a cover on it that id probably just throw away. I poop on the rugs a lot though :/

I have accidents way too often.

No pained drywall yet tho; that takes talent iPoop!

thank you all for the advice. It is a different type of stain and I believe it is mesalamine. I didn't do an enema last night, but I take a lot of lialda.

Wow, there is a real dispute here about bleach. One is it's the solution, the other it will make the stain darker.

Time to get a new toilet seat!

Yeah, just get a new seat... It probably depends on what your seat is made of. Bleach has not made mine dark, and I've cleaned up plenty of accidents from mesalamine, let me tell ya.... wink

I ripped 2 of 3 out of this house in the last 8 weeks. Crap the builder put in thats 'low flow'. I put in
$250.00 units that have powerful flush by raising cylinder in tank instead of cheezy flapper. You have to go absolutely wild with paper to stuff these things up I threw out my plungers. Bad enough going at night without the workout plunging. Plus a lever I can actually reach while facing away in the middle of the action, retarded model had a button behind me on the top of the tank ! *** idiot designed that ?

If your seat/lid gives you grief just throw it out and pick out one made from a better material.

Don't be mortified j2h, I've replaced my toilet seat 4 times in two years because of the disgusting stains. I used to treat myself to padded toilet seats in my pre UC life because I was up to pee once or twice in the night and it was a little nicer, but those stain the worse so now I'm buying the cheapest ones. I find they actually don't stain as badly. I have a gross gross stain on my bedroom wall which happened when I was 'burping' a salofalk enema before using it. I'd sure like to know how to get rid of that.

I feel badly for your back problem. I have a similar problems with my back which happen to be acting up at the moment so I'll make a suggestion to you to try to sleep in a zero gravity chair. This position really takes the pressure off your back. I broke my leg in September and I slept in the bathroom in my husband's wheelchair (he is quadriplegic from a horrible accident). It's a Rolls Royce of a wheelchair that can tilt like a zero gravity chair. Everyone was so mortified that I was sleeping in the wheelchair but really it was so comfortable on my back. The bathroom part was necessary because I needed to be close to the toilet. Now I'm getting better at walking again and I'm back in my bed, using a wedge cushion in bed to keep my knees up. I'm not that strong on my feet yet and because of my bad back I use a walker with wheels to motor to the bathroom in the night. Our house is wheelchair friendly obviously, so I'm lucky to have the room to do that.

I've almost done that, and if there's a stain...change the toilet seat. make your husband buy it for leaving the seat up :-)

hey, does Lialda stain any more than Asacol. I really don't remember these stains with Asacol?

Can not help with cleaning business, but here is the tip if it helps.

I faced these issues in the middle of the flare, and because of twisted ankle, I could not even run. I started taking 20mg Bentyl, just an hour before enema administration, so that I could retain enema. It not only helped with enema retention, but also helped with urgency. I was pretty sure that I would be fine for at least 6 to 8 hours. Since my sleep is exactly 8 hours, it helped a lot with these 'running' issues.

My house in Austin got all the carpet ripped out and replaced with porcelain tile for this reason. It's pretty poop-proof and easy to clean up.

Who knows...it might be a combo of what's in the water where one lives, how long it's been left on the toilet seat before cleaning...etc, etc, etc.

I think all 5ASA would stain the same way.
