OT - Pet Therapy

One 19 year old 6.4 lb cat (kiera...aka Demanda)
Handful from day one at 4 months old. She does tricks for kibble and other cool stuff. A joy every day...well, when there's no problems to deal with regarding her health.
Interestingly she has a few of the same issues I have...ugh...but it does make dealing with her a bit more insightful.

All is well at this point...3 months without serious problems has been hard work..but a welcomed break.

I've never had a dog....they're pretty cool, but much commitment than I'm willing to put in at this point in my life. Maybe one day.

iPoop: parakeets are what I always had growing up :) I wish they didnt bite so much. What color is yours? I had a blue amd white (pepe) white (cloud) and green and yellow (packer) hehe no birds since I was about 14 tho.

No pets. Well, actually we have two fish. I'm very allergic to cats and dogs. I would love to have a dog. We tried getting my boys (one is allergic to dogs and cats) a micro pig. Did tons of research and spent a fortune on it and she was about as affectionate as a squirrel. In the end a pig is never going to be a dog.

Why do you have so many pets, soystud?

Just a reminder for those of us having brutal cold: your animals can't tolerate it for long. Even though they have fur coats, they lose a ton of body heat through their paws, ears and noses. Also, if there's snow, it messes up their sense of smell. This is their primary sense, so it can disorient them and make them unable to find their way home.

Our little guys love the cold and love to go out, but we've been calling them in after ten minutes. Don't need any frostbite on those lovely long ears!

Limitless, my husband is very allergic to cats but I love them. I don't know much about hypoallergenic cats (and no I'm not interested in a hairless cat, LOL). I've heard that (aside from the hairless breed), no cats are truly hypoallergenic. What has been your experience - you can tolerate them well?

My baby girl wants a kitten lol! I'm thinking no way haha. I can' imagine 3 cats.

I find it interesting they say people with pets live longer, have lower blood pressure, kids have less allergies....but they are also more prone to accidents lol! I nearly fell down the stairs today thanks to my duo!

I'd love more pets, but my parents aren't keen on the idea. They did reluctantly agree to me getting a dog last year, but in the end I was the one who chickened out (or should that be dogged out? >_>). I was suffering from bad depression and struggling to do the basics of looking after myself, let alone another living creature. I just wasn't sure if I could commit to walking a dog every day, twice a day. Also, I would like to leave home. It's not going to be easy, and no doubt I'll keep putting off making the first move endlessly, but I am determined to take the plunge at some point. Unfortunately if I move into a flat, I probably won't be allowed to have a dog or a cat as a pet: this really annoys me, but that's another issue.

In an ideal world, I'd live in the countryside and have two dogs and two cats: think it's nice for animals to have their own non-human companion. I like both: don't have a strong preference.

Oh, and finally, our last dog was a Jack Russell Terrier called Nelson, bless his little heart <_<. He lived to 16, but sadly got dementia in his old age and stopped recognising any of us. He was a fighter before that, though: the bigger the better - dobermans, rottweilers, great danes, you name it. If it was big and male, he'd pick a fight with it :p

LOL!! I can see myself doing that... not even as a kid!

I guess we would have to test it out like that with my husband, see if he can tolerate any of the hypoallergenic breeds. I know when he goes to his friend's house and is around his regular cat he comes home sniffling and sneezing.

I wouldn't do anything now, but if I can find a place of my own which allows pets, I will almost certainly get a cat at least. No: two cats. >_>

We have two dogs. Lacey is DH's Aussie mix. Katy is DS's heeler mix. They are both rescues that we're supposed to be mine, but they fell in love with other members of the family.

DS has a white corn snake.

I tried kittens this year, but DH is too allergic and they had to go live with 'Grandma'. I miss my babies SO much! They're nearly full grown now!

I have a gorgeous 10 year old purebred collie. He's a blue merle, with exquisite coloring. He's really big...100 lbs. Last year when I was flaring badly, I couldn't walk him much, and that was hard on both of us. Now that I'm doing better, our walks are the highlight of my day. He is so sweet and he sits outside the bathroom door if I'm unwell.
I'm trying to talk my husband into another dog, as Gipper is getting up in age. Plus, Gip loves other dogs.
Also, I am allergic to dogs (and even more so to cats). I had to restart allergy shots 5 years ago to keep my pooch. Worth it. Animals are truly blessings.
