Use of mercaptopurine to treat proctitis

Hi,

I have just started to take these drugs and have felt really sick. I have only taken them for a week and am struggling. Food tastes horrible and I feel bloated and unwell. Has anyone else felt this way and does it get better?

I have tried other treatments which have not cured proctitis so really want to give these tablets a go but finding it hard. Any advice appreciated.

I am on 75mg of mercaptopurine. I have to confess, I did not take it today as the nausea is becoming unbearable. I also use salofalk enemas and they do help.

I did try taking it before bed and woke up a few times feeling sick. The sickness and food intolerance are similar to when I was pregnant and that was hard going! My stomach has always been very sensitive. I will contact my doctor and see what other alternatives there are.

Can I ask if the drugs have completely cleared up your proctitis?

I know I'm a little late to this thread, I haven't been on the board in awhile but I could really relate to your post..
When I first started taking 6mp last May it made me feel incredibly nauseous. I barely left my couch or bed for about two weeks and I completely lost my appetite. After a few weeks though the nausea and sick feeling went away and I haven't had any side effects from the med since. However, my doctor did warn me before taking the 6mp that nausea and feeling just icky was a side effect, and that if the sick feeling got too bad he would prescribe me anti-nausea medicine. Definitely talk to your doctor about that if you can't ride it out! Have you contacted your doctor yet? or started to feel better?
