I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but I am scheduled to start taking Humira injections next week. I was wondering if any of you are on or have taken Humira. Any advice or warnings?

It is kind of a dead horse. You may want to try using the search box near the top of the page. Unfortunately, it searches all of the forums so you may want to search for "Humira Colitis", although I believe Chronies use Humira as well.

I don't think I'd be to worried about it - I'm sure others will comment as well. I was on Remicade for two years. Was great.

I'd say try to be excited and think positive rather than dwell on warnings and such... think of what it will be like to be able to just get up and go and do all the things you haven't been able to do recently.

Was on Humira for a year and a half. Was taking it weekly. Never went into a true remission. Helped with symptoms. It's worth giving it a try. Lost its effectiveness after a while. Giving Simponi a try now.
Didn't have many side effects. The injections only stung for a few seconds. Hope it helps you! Good luck.

My apologies for the redundancy then, I'll be sure to search more often.

Thank you all for the support, I'm not nervous really, just anxious. I was on Imuran and it worked amazingly. I was down to only 2 bathroom trips a day, and I was able to live my life normally. Unfortunately, it gave me pancreatitis so I had to stop taking it. I actually tried it again without telling my doctor because I desperately wanted to go back into remission, but the pain was too much. I hope Humira works, but only time will tell.

My son has crohns and is on Humira and is doing very well. He has a very physical job. The only struggle he has is giving himself the injection.

I had my first dose about 11 days ago. Althoug im very sensitive to all the meds this one is not an exception. It gave me diarhea and i get sick to my stomac after eating yogurt. Im surviving on juice (from an extractor) and home made soup. Im praying that i wont be taking the next dose cause im not doing good at all

No Need to do any apologizing at all! Ignore the "dead horse" comment cause it;s not reflective of most on here.

It's more than OK to post questions like that on here - that's what the board is all about... for people to ask questions and learn from others experiences and help people.

Most new users are unsure of the search thing - and how to use it etc etc.

Ask away about anything.

PS: I was totally anxious the first day of my Remicade. I stayed up till about 4am the night before cause I was so worried and anxious and well whatever else was going through my mind at the time, haha.. My appointment was at 8am the net morning so I fell asleep in the chair and when I woke up it was over.

The only tip I have read or warning is something about pain with the injection and maybe using ice first or I recall something about that. People had different ways they dealt with it so maybe you can find info via the search or perhaps some other Humira users will comment with some helpful tips.

I am on Humira and it is a life saver. You will want to get the pen out of the fridge for about 20 min before you inject. Then some people hold ice or an ice pack on the injection site before injecting. I find the leg injections hurt more than the stomach. It helps if you let your foot touch the floor instead of just dangle. Some people feel ill for a few days after. I never have. But it is good to do it on the days that are your weekend. Humira has a discount program. They have a syringe disposal program. 24 hr nurse line. You can access all this through 1800 4 Humira . The first dose is usually four then two weeks later two more. I am not sure it is two weeks. Any other questions please feel free to ask.

I've been on Humira since last June and I noticed it has helped my symptoms somewhat. I still do my injections every two weeks. I have discussed with my GI taking the injections every week, but he is a little hesitant at the moment. Only real side effect I have had was some swelling and itching around the injection site, which is completely normal.

I agree with Teddtlove's recommendations in leaving the pen out of the fridge for 20 minutes or so. Any questions, let me know! Good luck!

I have been on Humira fr 10 months now.it slowed down the number of BMS ,did not stop it.
GI doc added prednoisone& 6 MP 3weeks ago.
Wow, no more diarrhea, much relief.
Just hope it stays this way.
I take Humira bi- weekly&I am tapering down on the prednisone. turn

I have been on Humira since October and colonoscopy showed remission. I still have occasional ups and downs- mucous sometimes, diarrhea occasionally, etc...I'm new to all of this so I am still trying to figure out what foods irritate my gut. However, I work out 5 days a week high intensity, I live a normal life, never search for bathrooms when I'm out or worry about it. I don't hav the urgency, and I can hold it now if I have to. No cramping, no blood, etc...humira has been awesome for me so far!

Thank you all for the kind words and stories. It sounds like everyone seems to have nice results, but I'm glad I know it hurts.lol I don't care about the pain, as long as it works.
