I liked
Witness too.
I like the classic good movies that may not have a lot in common except that they are well made. Anywhere from
The Godfather to the
Sound of Music. I like war movies that are so intense that they turn out to make the case for pacifism such as
Platoon and the German version of
Das Boot. Or Kids' movies that are so good that adults can appreciate them such as the
Wizard of Oz and
ET.
I can tell if I like a movie, (whether or not I want to admit it to myself), is while switching channels on the TV and finding a movie like
Goodfellas which I have seen many times, but stop browsing other channels and continue watching.
There is no surprise about
the dozens of my favorite movies except sometimes there is a movie that I know will not turn out to be a classic, but I liked it anyway such as
Clockwork Orange. (Almost embarrassed to admit that I liked it).
Another is
The Game with Michael Douglas. I see it as a metaphor for life and why sometimes the universe appears to be against us. Michael Douglas plays an A-Hole whose life is turned upside down. But in the end you realize that he needed to go through that in order to change his outlook and grow spiritually.
