Where are you all from?

When I was treated in Germany, I had no problem getting Remicade. I had a 2 year remission with it. Then I moved to America and I couldn't afford it anymore. Sure there is Remistart but I was already off of it by the time I learned about it.

In Germany and here I was/am on Imuran and in remission with it. Hopefully it stays that way because yesterday I wiped blood :/

UC UK sufferer for 47 years, never took medication daily just when flaring. Reason afraid that at my age now the meds would lose their effect. Last 5 years taken it daily but again Asacol x 2 a day instead of x 3. Was receiving colonoscopies yearly for the last 15 yrs but was then discharged, but will be requesting colonoscopy again as it is 3 years since I had one. Nothing out of bounds for me physically, do badminton, cycle walk. Would only have surgery as a very last resort. Eat what I want, though it is an eye opener on this site what diets people use to control their symptoms, plus their knowledge of their own insides re where the colitis is etc.

I'm from Poland (but no intention to immigrate to UK!) and I find the same medications here as everywhere. The difference is that biological treatment (which i fortunately don't need as yet) is not refunded so very few people can afford it. Generally speaking, colitis is extremely rare in Poland so the level of knowledge on the disease (among doctors) is practically zero. The Polish diet for colitis is very restrictive so i sometimes cannot believe what i read here :)

Crohn's and colitis sufferer for 14 years here. Like Red34 said, treatment for IBD is pretty much standardised worldwide. However, access to said treatment is not. It varies enormously between people in the same country, let alone worldwide.

I had no trouble getting Remicade at my current hospital, but the previous hospital was a joke: no staff seemed to stay on for longer than 3 months, so I kept on seeing different people. They messed me around over Remicade for months, saying I could only have 3 infusions and then eventually refusing me even that. I changed to another hospital, and the difference was like night and day. I asked to see the same doctor every single time: I see the consultant every time (a first). He got me onto Remicade as fast as he could. Just generally a miles better service. Even the stoma nurses here are really good.

Yeah, I've become a wimp I agree! We're all wimps here in Phoenix. When it's 60 degrees here people are walking down the street in snow boots, scarves, or floor length coats! LOL

American here... Wisconsin. I believe my state (at least my region of the state) SUCKS at dealing with UC patients when first diagnosed.

I've been hearing basically the same horror stories of leaving us completely in the dark from everyone in my area....

Michigan....and so tired of all the snow we have gotten so far. I see a new GI doc next month, I'm so excited. The doc I have now isn't worth a darn....I deal with his PA that then relays information to him. I then have to wait for him to respond back to him before I hear from the PA. It's just been horrible.
