Can I eat shellfish??

I am on a flare, I am only eating chicken breast, pasta, rice and chicken broths... it's getting boring! Can shellfish (like lobster, crab and shrimp) cause a problem to the digestive tract? Anyone noticed geting worse after eating that kind of meat?  Thank you!

I had an accident one time when I ate fish during my bad flare. I also nearly had one from lobster. I would say go for it if you're at home and close to a toilet. I wouldn't risk it if there is a long car ride involved. Just my experience, could be totally different for you tongue

You won't know unless you try it since many seem to vary from what bothers them and what doesn't.

Yeah ... I've read that lobster meat can be good for UC since it's full of vitamins and omega 3 ... I am worried I am missing something important lol I will try and see :P

I would think fish would be good for you b/c of the omega-3s, like you mentioned. I don't know b/c I don't eat meat, but I wouldn't think it would cause digestion issues for the majority of people.

Shellfish is pro-inflammatory. Fish is anti-inflammatory.

I never seemed to have a problem with it....I love crab legs and eat them a lot....the butter is a different story.

Well I had lobster , I will see how the night goes lol

I am getting paranoid about food recently.. I have been hospitalised for 9 days for UC and my aunt decided to help me (she's had UC for 19 years) and she's telling me what to eat ... her advice is pretty much to eat chicken breast and rice, rice milk and rice krispies for the rest of my life.... what a boring menu...

I'd stay away from it. Shellfish are known for being the cause of carcinogenic health hazards. People get sick off of bad shellfish all the time. Not to mention they are the scavengers that live on the ocean floor, the dirtiest part of the ocean. They are basically the cockaroaches of the sea. Everything they eat, you eat

I'm from MD and grew up with seafood, especially blue crab. I can't even think of not eating seafood. It may not be seasoned anymore or as much, but I have to try it and find out. lol

Just have to try it for yourself. I eat shrimp and lobster with no issues.
