Humira vs. Remicade

I was on remicade infusions for a year. It didn't help my colitis at all. My GI recently prescribed humira injections. That is not working either. He wants me to see another GI specialist in another state. I am taking Lialda, 20mg of prednisone, bentyl and tramadol for pain. I am not a good candidate for Imuran. Anyone have any suggestions to help with flare ups.

Are you doing any probiotics, supplements, or diet changes?

Yes, I have changed my diet. No dairy, spicy or fried foods. No raw vegetables.
I am not doing any probotics.

How do you know it isn't helping you at all? Was this confirmed by colonoscopy, or are you judging by symptoms? A lot of symptoms are driven by rectal inflammation, which may be the last thing to clear up. You can speed this process with rectal medication.

Have you had your levels checked?

If you're not getting to a therapeutic range, it will not work well. You need to have your dosage adjusted.

If you are in a therapeutic range, but it isn't doing anything, you are a non or slow responder. Odds are high that no anti-TNF biologic will work for you.

A doctor that is better at managing biologics may help you by better understanding how to properly adjust your dosage.

I am judging by my symptoms, I am having another colonoscopy in a few weeks. This has been a battle for three years. Thanks for your input. Will discuss with my GI

I was in your situation; also had Remicade for a year (3 months of that at a double dose), followed by Humira. Nothing worked, apart from Pred.

I was tired and worn out, so opted for surgery. If you have the energy, try simponi and cyclosporine (not together) next.

Neither one worked for me and that was followed up by a scope. The best for me, which has not put me into remission is, oral and rectal meds. Now I'm starting antianexity meds to see if that will keep my mind of my gut issues

What exactly do you mean by oral and rectal meds? Sorry not trying to get this thread sidetracked.

I think your prednisone dose is too low. I would take 40, or even 60 for a few days, and then taper only when I started to improve. Sucks, but it kept me out of the hospital.
