UCwhat? said...
In my case, that didn't work either, and about 9 months after my initial diagnosis, I went in for surgery. Sure, some would say that's crazy...but in my case...it literally saved my life.
Let me guess, you feel great now and don't have to worry about
any medications or UC Flares anymore.... me too. I'm so happy that I went for surgery, wish that I done it much sooner.
Hypothetically speaking... If we renamed "Surgery" to something else with a crazy biological name that we all couldn't pronounce like Surgicalimab and said it was this new great treatment that would make you feel better and you'd be cured then would UC patients be so opposed to surgery?
Surgericalimab Protocol: Lay down on table for about
3 hours for each treatment.
Number of treatments: 2 to 3 times (about
3 months apart)
Requirements: For UC patients only. Stay in a hospital for 3-7 days for each treatment. Empty the Suricalimab appliance a few times a day until the treatment is complete. take it easy for a few weeks after being released from the hospital after each treatment.
Side-effects: Loss of colon but replaced with a more effective j-pouch with no urgency or blood. More bms per day but not the same as preUC, empty pouch/new colon quicker than before.
Outcome: UC cured in about
97% of patients, no risk of colon cancer. No further medications needed for UC.
If we could all get past the name (surgery and the stigma that goes with it) then I think many of us would choose this treatment because for many of us it the best treatment outcome for Severe UC.
I have taken all the medications mentioned in this thread and speaking from experience, surgery has been the best treatment for me. It is not the best for all people but we should be
open-minded about
since it is the only know cure for UC and we don't expect another cure to come along anytime soon...hate to be pessimistic about
that but that is the case.
Like I said in the first sentence, I feel great from Surgicalimab and I feel better from it than I did from any other UC treatments that I took prior to Surgicalimab.
