There are a lot of posts on this forum about
nicotine; you'll find quite a few different stories. I saw some benefits from Nicorette (mostly fewer BMs), as have others. It wasn't enough to put me into remission, and I doubt nicotine alone, not smoked, would have that dramatic effect on many, if any, people. One person's story that I found interesting is here: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=2814182
There are studies out there about
nicotine (note: not smoking, but nicotine itself) and its effect on UC, but so far they are largely inconclusive. Like many others, I quit smoking around 20 years ago and my first symptoms showed up within a year. I imagine that if I were to start smoking I probably would have seen even greater reduction in symptoms, but that's both conjecture and something I was not willing to do.
However, one thing I've learned from this forum is that there are as many treatments for UC as there are people afflicted - everyone seems to respond differently.
