Can't really add much to what's been already said. I just plug my searches into google and see what comes out: I find that google tends to give far more relevant results than pubmed, oddly enough. It even sometimes comes up with a list of scholarly articles at the top of the research results.
But unfortunately, recent publications tend not to be free to view, no matter which search engine you go through. I just tend to rely on the abstracts in that case, and read older studies in full. It's not ideal, but a well-written abstract should give you the gist of the entire article.
Also, medical news sites will also report the latest research. Yes, you're getting the info second-hand, but it's better than nothing.
Speaking of which, this was literally published in 2014:
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/codi.12558/abstractWould very much like to read that one in full, as it's entirely relevant to my interests.
