How has UC affected your outlook on professional life?
Has it pushed you to make a career change in either direction?
Are you as ambitious now as you were before the disease?
Does having the disease change how you feel about
work in general?

I like work and my job and I didn't change direction due to having UC. I do feel UC holds me back in some ways. There are times I would like to be more of a "team player" but i can only work for so many hours before I am exhausted. While flaring, I feel terrible when I am not up to staying late or being the person who picks up the slack but I really can't help it, I am too tired and drained of energy. I guess my outlook has changed. I am less concerned about
getting ahead. I don't think the quality of my work has suffered at all though, I am a very hard worker and I will help out until all hours of the night, I just can't stay in an office where I don't have good bathroom access for prolonged periods. Luckily my job is very laid-back and people don't seem to mind. I am very fortunate.

I feel unprofessional because of my attendance and lack of energy issues that sometimes come up.
I would love to continue working in Human Services, which is a pretty laid back field.
Having been diagnosed with Depression a year before UC, changed my ambition for being what I was to what I am doing now... my priorities changed even more with my UC. I am in an 8 months flare... so at this point if I have to travel to a better hospital and end up losing my job... I will be upset, I love my job... but my health is more important.
Having a chronic illness makes me upset about
working because; you have to work to have money for doctor bills and/or insurance. But you can't always work enough because you are chronically ill!

It doesn't affect my work too much (Info Tech.), but it does have an effect on socials etc.. I can't just turn up and eat sandwiches and coke like everyone. Today was "pancake day", guess who didn't partake (lol). So it's more about
the social side, which often involves food, drink etc.
There's also occasional 'lack of energy' issues.. and of course becoming one of the more frequent customers of the toilet facilities. Still, most people are understanding, and everyone in the workplace these days has some cross to bear.. from single-parents to living far from work etc. etc.
