Do any of you whom follow these diets ever cheat a bit?

I did scd for 4 months and did not cheat at all, it was awful and sooo time consuming. Now I'm more paleo but slowly trying to introduce foods such as legumes, and just looking for possible reactions.

well of course - isn't that the definition of a diet ?
actually never have followed a specific "diet"

I followed SCD for about
16 months without cheating.. but didn't work as a fix.. just reduced symptoms. Now I just do mostly paleo, but cheat occasionally. I'm a bit over the whole diet fanaticism thing.. but then again it's been 16 years for me. Newbies probably have more motivation.

Did SCD for about
a year. Didn't cheat. Was effective initially but after a big flare it did not have the same effect as initially so modified to add in more prebiotic foods.

Ya SCD worked the first two months then stopped working for me as well. I've read it is good for SIBO issues but only short-term. I think if you want to see if a diet works, try not to cheat. You'll never know if the diet works that way. That being said, some of these diets are really hard and take time getting used to and figuring out what you can eat. I'd tried scd before those 4 months with some cheats while I adjusted to the new way of eating. I didn't consider that time fully "scd" though.

I never cheated on SCD and did it two times for long periods in the past 10 years. Never achieved enough remission from SCD however.
Now I am Paleo-ish but do not adhere to someone else's list of foods.I let my gut dictate the diet and this is working very well. Yes I occasionally eat foods that will not please my gut and cause IBS reactions. But I don't think of it as cheating.
I am very happy with my food list and do not feel deprived but that's probably because I've been on stricter diets (SCD haha). Nothing tastes as good as remission feels and if I had to I'd give up all the foods my gut hates but so far I don't have to.

Just in addition, Susan, if you want to try these days, you should try them properly for a set time. Who knows, you might be one of the lucky lottery winners and it could be a fix. If it doesn't work within 6 months or so, I'd say it may help as an aid only.
There's also a balance between maintaining some sanity and following highly restrictive diets. I've known people on SCD who are walking emotional bombs, which sort of defeats the purpose.
You'll know pretty quick if it's for you or not. Some people within a week or so.
