Well I talked to my GI today and I got a script for Questran and Uceris.

She said no more Vanco and that Questran would help pull the rest of the c.diff toxins out of me...

I did some searching on the boards and didnt see anything about questran for c.diff.

But when I questioned her about it, she let me know that if I dont trust her ... I can go see any GI I want.

Pffft. Glad I have a second opinion on the 19th. Blehhh.

Not very happy. Heading to pharmacy now.

Well I found a report on its use with c.diff. doesnt look hugely promising.
got really nauseous and didnt go with hubz to the pharmacy... so lets dee how expensive this crap is.

Glad to have my probiotics and extra time to nap. Hope it helps.

I am thinking you may need a second opinion! Did you try the Vancomycin taper over 6-8 weeks or a pulsed regime? If not, definately go see another Dr.

I have taken Questran (aka cholestyramine) both for UC and C. diff. It is pretty effective at fighting diarrhea so even if it doesn't reduce your inflammation you might be glad to be taking it. It is effective against mild C. diff but I'm not sure I would rely upon it as your only C. diff treatment.

Be careful with the timing of when you take your Questran and your other drugs, ESPECIALLY prednisone. Questran blocks absorption of other drugs so you need to space it out by a few hours from any other drugs.

I hope it helps you. Uceris seems to be helping me. I think you're going to have to keep an open mind and give it a try. the 19th isn't too far away. hopefully you are seeing improvement before then :)

Yeah... it sounds great for the diarrhea.
Not happy that its all she has me on for c.diff. Grrrr.

I did get the uceris. And she didnt tell me to taper pred or what to do to switch.
so... ***.

Def excited for the 19th :D

I did not taper Prednisone when I switched to budesonide. I think they're recommending a short taper now - I think I read that in the Uceris prescribing info.

you MUST taper the prednisone according to a doctor's instructions, do NOT just switch. IIRC you've been on 40 mg of prednisone for several months now, it would be dangerous to stop cold turkey (even if it's to switch to uceris). Either get in touch with your GI sooner or wait until after your appt to switch to the Uceris.

Yeah... my "smart" GI didnt give me a taper schedule

Just a lot of attitude for asking questions.

Pk, I like the idea. And thats great she thinks out of the box or whatever... but ive been crapting 12+ times a day for 8 months.

I just want to start DOING something. Well I got the probiotics and will short taper the pred and start the uceris soon. Ive quick tapered pred before no issue at all.

Im interested to see how the diarrhea might stop... but would be very surprised if my c.diff toxins are pulled out and pooped out better than the lab rats.

I might *****... but ill always try it :)

My doctor prescribed questran for me because I was honest with her and told her I have never finished a course of Flagyl. Flagyl makes me feel horrible and every c-diff test came back negative. However she (and I) still thinks it might be hiding in my colon because 40mg of prednisone was doing nothing for me.

Questran did bulk up my stools and I was going to the bathroom less. I don't take it every day but I do think it helped me a little. I'd go ahead and take it for good measure if I were you.

I think the Questran is a good idea, but I'm not so sure about a doctor who doesn't want to answer your questions. Unless you're one who questions everything she does, asking for an explanation as to how something will help you isn't unreasonable.

How long does it take for Uceris to kick in? It's been a little over 2 weeks and I'm not feeling better at all.
