My BF's mom came back from her trip to Germany with a bunch of German chocolate! She gave me a milka bar and I told myself I would eat it slowly, two squares a day to ensure no pain! I've been doing so well lately -- decreased frequency, less urgency, more formed, no abdominal pain-- but still more than just a little blood. My diet has been very consistent, I haven't given into any junk food for at least over a month now so figured a little treat won't hurt.
HAH, well, the eat it slowly method didn't work for me! I gobbled up the entire bar in two days, just finished the last bite! It was delicious! Hopefully I won't feel too terrible afterwards!

YUM! I would have done the same thing, and I would pay for it! Im learning that chocolate doesn't go thru as nicely as I wish it would! But, it may still be worth it! :)

I think you'll be okay. :)
From my personal experience, European chocolate doesn't screw with my colon no matter how much of it I eat. Unlike here, they have pretty decent manufacturing standards and don't cut any corners with their ingredients. The UK cadbury variety is to die for and I generally have to import em from amazon.
American chocolate, on the other hand, will wreck havoc on my colon the following day. I'm 100% it's the artificial flavorings that are banned in other countries. It's hard to fathom that some of the junk additives in our chocolate bars pass of as food.

I believe milk chocolate is the worst but the darker chocolates aren't so bad.

I had four squares of organic, dark mint chocolate as a very rare treat the other day. Did I have a minor blip the next day? Yes. Was it worth it? Mmmmmm, yes! :)

Okay, next time you are given a large amount of chocolate, here are the steps to take to ensure you don't risk damage to your system:
1. eat one small square
2. wrap up remaining chocolate
3. courier remainder to my address

I had a long talk with my colon - short version,
'I'm gonna eat it, so just deal with it - no crazy s**t please "
so far, that seems to be working ;-)

It's also better for me to eat the whole block and have none remaining around the home, rather than try ration out a square a day or something.

I totally understand the temptation of European chocolate. Mmmmm. Heaven on earth! Last week I slowly ate a whole dark chocolate Toblerone, after intending to break off 2-3 chunks & wrapping up the rest of it. For decades after UC dx I was disciplined & avoided candy + rich desserts 98% of the time, but the last couple of yrs I'm especially bad about
binging on Haagen-Dazs rocky road ice cream. The smooth chocolate, marshmallow creme swirls, & roasted almonds are definitely a mood elevator for me. Good thing I'm not tempted by other flavors ... / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I like Toblerone too....has anyone tried the white Toblerone, its incredible! I think you have to have something you want every now and again, otherwise life would be miserable.

Mmmm, I love toblerone! I always find that the white chocolate is much easier for me to enjoy than milk and dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is the worst for me, actually. It's probably the cocoa.

I might have just drooled a bit...
I do fine with dark chocolate. One of my favorites has almonds and sea salt in it.
