Just had a chat with my gi and would like to ask a question. When you have inflammation could you just have it in your ascending colon or transverse and then have none in the decscending or sigmoid. My gi said that I could have inflammation further up even tho my sigmoidoscopy showed none in the rectum ( I have proctitis)

Yes, you can. This happened to me. My first scope was limited to the sigmoid colon and it wasn't until 2 years later that I had a full scope showing inflammation in the cecum as well as the rectum.

I've just had a colonoscopy after a severe flare up. Most of my colon is back in remission but I have mildly active disease on the right hand side - ascending colon. This is after taking cyclosporine (for 8 weeks - stopped 2 weeks ago) plus mezavant, pentasa supp, and 6MP for the full ten weeks. So yes, you can have disease just in the ascending or transverse colon!

Hi everybody. Thanks or your replies.
Red I have been using suppositories for the last three months. My own consultant told me to stop them because he saw no active inflammation on the scope but the consultant I poke to last night said continue to use them. I only have proctitis so wonder bout any more inflammation. My own consultant and the IBD Nurse are back off their holidays on Monday so I will be straight on the phone.
The consultant I spoke to last night sys it may not be IBD related.
UCyousee Glad you are on the mend. Unfortunately I am unable to have 6mp or cyclosporine because my white count is very low. This is a big worry to me.

the reason you have no inflammation is BECAUSE you use the suppositories. I'd bet when you stop it will come back.

Hi Scott. I have never used the supps in the past for maintenance and my last remission lasted 9 months. It seems I flare every November. I read on here of people that go far longer. Think I will use the supps behind his back. This flare seemed to start with a bad bout of diarrhea. Wonder about
this to.
