Does anybody with UC take daily aspirin ?

I dont think anyone with IBD should go near aspirin with a thousand foot pole, baby version otherwise. The 5ASA's used for IBD (I dont take them because They happen to make my UC worse) may confer some protective benefit against colon cancer, but aspirin as such could weaken the gut lining making a relapse more likely.

All of my gastros said to never take NSAIDs because it can make my UC worse.

I don't think it is worth the risk for people with UC and I have never found it to be as effective as a pain reliever as Tylenol. If I need something stronger I take Tylenol 3s.

Way before UC I quit aspirin because it causes bruising for me. IIRC one reason people take aspirin is for stroke prevention and prevention of blood clots. In my opinion my blood doesn't need any more thinning, even turmeric caused bruising for me. I have that Northern European pale thin skin too.

One reason why I take no meds is because supplements interact with them. I don't take aspirin since I take fish oil for my UC and general health, and fish oil also thins the blood. You should not take fish oil if on prescribed blood thinners like Coumadin or Plavix. Maybe aspirin too. Please refer to your doctor.

Bruising may be a sign of weak capillaries and if I were worried about a stroke then I would want strong blood vessels. Weak blood vessels may be a sign of vitamin C deficiency. The C vitamin, especially with its analogs, quercetin, rutin, hesperidin, and bioflavonoids, are known to strengthen capillaries. I don't bruise easily and I am not sure if I was born that way or because I supplement daily with the C stuff.

Please refer to your doctor about supplementing with fish oil or vitamin C complex if you are already on blood thinners or other meds. As I said before I don't care if I poison myself but would feel terrible if someone added a supplement that reacted badly with his/her current meds.

I take aspirin daily, never had a problem.

While I take a daily aspirin for cardio, taking a naproxin (Aleve®) is a sure fire flare trigger for me.

I take one 81mg aspirin a day.take Tylenol for back pain . Doesn't work as well as Advil but my G I said not to take any more so I dont

Cathron you mentioned your doc putting you on 80 mg of Lipitor.

Seems that Big Pharma has changed the messaging to its docs: everyone should be on lipitor, and not just small doses either.

In the past 6 months, I've noticed a big shift. GI are pushing biologics as a first method of treatment whereas it used to be last. And GP and Cardiologists are pushing larger dosed statins rather than dietary and excercise first.

Clearly Big Pharma isn't making enough profits, so they are pushing their salesman ( doctors) to prescribe bigger, more expensive drugs ( both in terms of $$$ and side effects). This all works out great for the docs and Big Pharma, but for the patient? Not so much.

BTW, the big cholesterol myth is finally coming out in the media, but you have to look for it.
They can't tout it too much, it would cut too much $$ into their profits. But now they've come out with a new reason to push statins: seems the reason you need it isn't so much for cholesterol control ( because that's a bunch of bs) but rather to control inflammation. And who doesn't have inflammation? So, now they have a huge potential population they can tap into for their profits. Aahh ... greed, how lovely.

What can you do for the pain?

Honestly, I would suggest you call poison control.
In the United States, call 1-800-222-1222 to speak with a local poison control center, and tell them of your terrible stomach pains.
