Prednisone causing bloating and blurping

High dose of Pred is making my daughter to eat 3-4 times her normal. I can see her stomach has bloated and she is blurping quiet a bit. Is this causing her more indigestion? She is complaining of tummy ache as this complaint has started recently. Please advice.

Prednisone is good at giving people heartburn/reflux. I would try something for that like Prilosec or Zantac...but of course in a dose for her.

Agreed...try Prilosec 20 mg once at night, or 20mg am and pm, depending on how old she is. This is 24 release.

Zantac is immediate release, so she won't get protection throughout the day.

She is taking lanzoprozole Rx. Is that sufficient?

Prevacid, same thing just about as Prilosec. Ask about doubling the dose to your dr. Sometimes it helps to split that dose up am and pm, or something prescription which is stronger like Nexium or Protonix, depending on her age.

I found that since taking meds I get burping, not just with predinsone, but asacol and now lialda. I take Soloray peppermint capsules and recently started taking Braggs apple cider vinegar. The peppermint caps work, but the apple cider vinegar is better, its nasty though. If you google it, you'll find people get off their acid reflux drugs when they drink the watered down vinegar.

Be careful with proton pump inhibitors. They inhibit acid production but acid is needed for digestion. Acidity is also needed to trigger closing of the valve separating the stomach and esophagus.

It is true that ppis reduce acid (that is the point). In a pediatric patient this can be a problem if you are using it for a long time because it particularly reduces the availability of calcium. But for a short period to help with acute reflux due to prednisone, it is ok.
