What meds reach cecum and mid ascending colon

I have moderate active inflammation in the cecum and mid ascending colon. Everywhere else it is mild except in the rectal area where it is 107 50-54chronic inflammation but not active. . Does it make sense to keep using rectal foams , and enemas . Do these reach the area such as the cecum and mid transverse colon where my inflammation is moderate ?

they do not reach beyond left colon, but some level might be kept to deal with moderate inflammation.

maybe add a 5-asa like pentasa that opens early

Thank you . For that area of inflammation is it mainly the prednisone/ biologics that only work ?

Mesalazine should work. Also Entocort and Uceris. Prednisone as well.

Marathon, most of the oral mesalamines are meant to work throughout the entire colon. Some may do better in the transverse and descending colon. For sure, Pentasa will work in the cecum and ascending colon.

The rectal meds will only treat the rectum and sigmoid colon.

Is pentasa the same as Asacol?

It's a 5ASA as is Asacol, different delivery method, still topical. It releases higher in the small intestine.

If you're on Asacol, it will treat the Cecum since it releases in the terminal ileum...but Pentasa would be a good one to start.

Would you mind to put in your signature what meds you're using.

Are you 21 years old or have you had UC for 21 years?

Hi ,
I've had uc for 21 years . Started out as proctosigmoiditis and in the last few years went to pancolitis . Have been on and off asacol , mostly because thought it was causing pancreatitis . Now back on it . In a recent flare so also on prednisone , cortifoam . Was on entocort but caused stomache pain which we thought couid be pancreatitis . My main problem is urgency and D though I think most of my moderate inflammation is in cecum and mid ascending colon.My rectal inflammation is minimal . I really want to target the worst areas , and
Not sure which meds are the best . You Wouid think I know after so long , but I don't .

Currently on -prednisone 30mg, asacol 10 pills , cortifoam 1 or twice a day
