Salofalk really new to this.

I was diagnosed at the end of february with pancolitis was in really bad flare.
GI gave me 4g of salofak per day 32mg of medrol ( reducing it 4 mg a week)
Now I feel good he told I am in remission. So he reduced salofalk to 3g a day then i got some cramps and not much diarhea. I went back to 4 g per day and everything since then is fine.
I am really new to this UC thing can someone tell me a bit more about salofalk pls i will be really grateful.

It's a mesalazine based medication. It's not well understood how and why they work in UC. They were developed for arthritis originally and the researchers found that people with IBD as well often got a lot better and it was more successful for IBD than arthritis. It was firstly mixed with sulfa but is better tolerated without it by many.

Salofalk is Mesalazine. You take it inbetween meals because that's how it's best digested and it opens up in your colon to take affect there. It's an anti-inflammatory and also good for cancer prevention.

You can get side effects like bleeding, diarrhea and hair loss. I don't know how it is for others but after a certain amount of time Mesalazine loses its effects and doesn't do anything anymore.

Does Mesalazine always lose its effects over time? Or is it a 'almost always' situation.

How does mesalazine work for arthritis if it is not absorbed into the blood stream
