What rectal meds do you take?

Supp/Enema - Brand Name - Chemical Name - Dose - Frequency of Dose


Curious. Especially since everyone seems to have different names (even in the same countries!)

Generic rowasa. On the box it says: Meslamine rectal suspension kit. Each enema contains 60ml of liquid, and 4g of meslamine, says take one before retiring for the night. My prescription includes 28 white bottles with blue caps in a rather large box. The box also includes a couple zip lock bags with moist wipes with aloe.

I am using Asacol suppositories. 2 x 500mg a day. I believe they really made a difference to me when I had proctitis but now that it has spread to the sigmoid they won't reach high enough. They are mesalasine. The maximum dose is 3 x 500mg a day. I am in the UK.

Pentasa (mesalazine) suppositories, once a day during remission.
During a flare 2 x Pentasa and in the past generic prednisolone foam enemas. I've tried liquid mesalazine and steroid enemas in the past and foam Mesalazine but didn't like the inconvenience of liquid enemas.

I'm taking a Pentasa mesalamine 1g suppository, alternate days, in fact I'm not actually sure whether I should be taking them in the evening or first thing in the morning after a BM, mainly because if I take it late evening, I will have a BM in the morning, so its only in around 9 hours, whereas if I take it after a BM in the morning, its then in about 24 hours...another thing is that I have found I don't like putting my finger up my bottom smilewinkgrin the tablet seems to want to go its own way, its so hectic!

Right now Canasa Suppositories 1gram. There is no generic. Generic Rowasa 4g.

I use Canasa after my 2nd bm of the day. That's usually all I go, but if I go a third time, it's usually after dinner so I do a generic enema and call it a night. I like to always have something in there. We'll, not exactly like it but you know what I mean! So far it's worked to keep me from a post partum flare which I was freaking about as I just had my third kid.

I've been using cortifoam and generic Rowasa but you probably already know my story. How are you doing?

I do cortifoam nightly and follow with a Rowasa when I can tolerate it.

I'm in Canada, so I have 1000mg salofalk suppositories and 4g enemas.

Mesalamine rectal enemas some days , other days canasa supp. GI thinks I really should not need any of this while taking Simponi . He's wrong. Not in remission yet!
