Can a supplement really work this well/fast?

Hi everyone!

I haven't posted anything recently, mostly because there was nothing really exciting to post. I've been just kind of going along with a "new normal" since my UC diagnosis - doing the Lialda and mesalamine enemas when things look like they are going south.

Things were starting to go south on me again, and even though I was only running to the bathroom once per day, I was getting stuck in there for almost an hour. Frustrating. On top of that, I was getting woken up at 4am almost every day with horrible cramps. BAD. So I thought, fine, let's get some slippery elm and other supplements and try this out while waiting to see my GI again in a week or so.

I purchased a formula called "Colon Comfort" from Western Botanicals. Here are the contents:

Wildcrafted Marshmallow root
Wildcrafted Wild Yam Root
Aloe vera resin
Organic Ginger root
Organic Slippery Elm bark
Wildcrafted lobelia herb
Organic Plantain herb
Organic Cayenne Pepper fruit

It has me taking 2 capsules 3x per day.

I have not had a SINGLE abdominal cramp since Monday when I started taking these. I've gone to the bathroom, but only spent about 1/2 as much time there. It could just be that I'm finally healing up with the combination of Lialda/Mesalamine, but maybe this is helping. I have no idea why this is working.

Anyone have thoughts? I don't think this is some "miracle cure," but if I can use it with my Lialda to feel better I would be SUPER excited.

Wow, that is awesome. Either way, if it is working stick with the formula. I hope you continue to feel better and pls keep us posted!

I'm with DB on this...for various reasons including fibre and antispasmodic.

Are you also on maintenance enemas tapered to twice a week? If not, I'd strongly suggest you stay on them.

The capsules are 495mg of the "blend" each. They're pretty small - smaller than VSL #3, that's for sure! A little smaller than my Lialda pills.

Yes, maintenance enemas, and if things get "funny" I go back on a 30 day run, and taper back again.

Thanks, quincy!! My horse was GREAT for awhile, and we even did a show at 2'9" - 3' - and then she went lame again

I sent her up to a very well known vet / horse hospital for an MRI, and it's still bursitis...so they recommended de-nerving her heels so that it would stop bothering her. We did that last week, and in about 2 months she can go back to work. Vet says she can go back to jumping just like before, we just have to make sure her heels are checked frequently because she can't feel them, but I think that's a fair trade for her being comfortable and being able to work. So we'll see!!

The new job is FABULOUS as well. No more litigation, no more working for the awful horrible partner, and it's just been great. Has done wonders for my stress level.

The other super fun thing going on is that I went to see a jaw surgeon. I have a pretty good overbite that braces couldn't fix, and now the acid reflux from the UC has done a number on my back molars (gone now, but 3 months really messed them up). So he wants to do "veneers" on my molars as well as my front teeth, but the molars are so worn down they'll actually be 1/2 crowns. Well - he doesn't want to do that until I get my bite fixed, because I'll just mess them up. So I consulted with a jaw surgeon, who spent about 3 hours with me doing x-rays and models of my jaw - come to find out that my airway is about 1/5 the size of a normal airway...so it needs to be fixed because of that in addition to the bite! Ugh. They think that this could be causing obstructive sleep apnea, which is making me tired and aggravating my UC. SO I'll be going off to have a sleep study....

Yes guts problems can be solved quite rapidly so that's probably your supplement that helps, congrats!

meyerlemony...wow, not so good about your horses's lameness. Would she maybe do better for another type of riding competition rather than jumping? dressage maybe?
Would be sad to have her put to a limit where she's unsalvageable....but I'm not in that business, so just wondering.


I didn't realise you were having jaw problems (or don't remember)....hope surgery will help get your bite back into order and ultimately deal with the other related issues.
