Probiotics (balancing digestive tract bacterial flora), fibre (helping to exercise and even the peristalsis of the digestive tract, help sweep out any nasties and excessive mucus if that's an issue, feed the probiotics, bulk/soften/fluff the stool for easier passage, take with meals so it acts like food, etc) and fish oil (to provide some slip for stool if you're constipated, helps with general health, helps blood circulation, helps eye health, a host of other stuff, start in small dosages)......
Personally...I didn't discuss these with my GI,I just told him I was taking probiotics and fibre.
Maybe don't call them alternative therapies.
Yes, they can help you generally health-wise for obvious reasons...they are supplemental support.
What you can expect time-wise??....it's a process, and we can make suggestions if you have any issues.
Keep us posted how your appointment goes.
