So what if Big Pharma got ahold of LDN, patents it, and starts marketing it for financial gain? That doesn't change what LDN is. Either you think it works or you don't. Does it work better if it is an "underground" med than if it were sold by Big Pharma? It's the same med whether the underground sells it or Big Pharma sells it. Are you saying that the people who sell it now don't make a financial gain on it? Are you saying that if Big Pharma did several questionable large studies on it to prove it's effectiveness, that it would be different than it being sold on the underground now? Would you be against it if Big Pharma got ahold of it, even though it had the exact same formula sold on the underground?

I just don't understand how you can criticize every single thing and every single study produced by Big Pharma and yet implicitly believe every single word from your underground sources as if it were all cold hard facts.

I'm currently taking LDN.... Have no opinion as of yet, but no side effects so far. It's been about 3 weeks. I am seeing great improvement in my bowel but that's likely the IVIG. I'm committing to 3 months. Time will tell...

I'm glad your are getting better ;) IVIG or LDN, the important is that you are pulling out of this flare.

You can put most of the UC drugs in that catagory for people here though. Are any of them a miracle? You follow posts long enought most end the same.

Reading comprehension should be a mandatory requirement. Some people just don't have the brain capacity or are missing the regions in the brain for it.

I already said TMI will try to get on board with it, but they are investing in low cost distribution methods where everyone, including millions of HIV patients in Africa, will have access to it.

My post confirms nothing, nor does it deny anything. If I say something, it's usually true. I don't think it's name calling. I believe it's the truth. If we want to get into technicalities, look up the definition of clown because you are clearly humorous to me. I don't think it violates the rules at all. If you see a problem with it, it is well within your right to report me to the admin and we can get this resolved.

It is pretty well established that 90% of the people who talk trash about LDN have no idea how to use it, nor have they researched it thoroughly. They basically grasp at the air and try to use anything as their main points to argue against it. This also applies to sciencebasedmedicine where the authors take something like the GAPS diet or the Marshall protocol at face value and trash it, despite numerous complaints in the comments section from other doctors who have had success with it. That they closed off further comments is, again, suspicious to me.

Dr.Burton Berkson, who picked up where Dr.Bihari left off on LDN, uses it as an adjunct, along with alpha lipoic acid, dietary modifications, exercise, sunlight, etc. TMI isn't making any superficial claims about it either, nor are they looking to cash in on it.

As a general rule of thumb, pharmaceutical companies do not invest in therapies if there is no return investment. To put this in perspective, the current biologics on the pipeline require billions for research, clinical trials, staffing, ghost writing and are too big to fail at the moment. MLN002 absolutely cannot fail in the eyes of Takeda, which is why we're seeing a lot of "promising" evidence on it. Just like Tysabri, it has a chance of being recalled due to PML concerns that honest scientists are continuing to voice.

For the record, I don't have anything against LDN. It may work in some cases and it is fairly inexpensive with few side effects. I would recommend giving it a try over the immunemodulators or biologics or just about anything really. I think there are those on here who way overstate it's success rates. I also question that if they strongly suggest that it works best while on the SCD diet, then maybe it is really the SCD diet which is actually responsible for some patients getting better and has nothing at all to do with the LDN. I don't really know, but it's possible. I do take exception though to anyone who recommends it soley because it is not made by Big Pharma but if it was made by Big Pharma then they wouldn't recommend it. It either works or not depending on it's own merit, not because of who it is made by.

LDN is cheap, I tried both the transdermal and the pill form. I still have scripts for it. I can get more if I want. I was on it for a year, didn't do anything as far as I see...

but it's worth trying, wont break the bank.

chantrelle: Sorry you feel that way. It's good to try to look at everything with realistic eyes and expectations. There is no fountain of youth but there are things you can do to slow down the aging process. I would rather know the truth about things rather than having doctors, websites, or fanatic people blow false sunshine up my butt. I think it's easier to work on the problem when we look at options with realistic expectations. Generally speaking, I have been getting better and better and better over my four year UC career. It hasn't been a straight line. I try trying one thing at a time. Sometimes you just can't get to the end of the rainbow overnight. I put myself in remission from my first autoimmune disease but it took me nine years to figure it out.
