Hi, I'm new to all this and have a few questions. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy that showed diffuse inflammation and erythema edema. They took three biopsies which came back negative with "mucosa with no specific pathologic changes". I'm not sure what to think about the biopsy results with how the colon looked. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :-)

I'd really be grateful for any insight :-) I'm scared and really don't want to wait to get an idea of what I'm in for. It seems that doctors are always like "hurry up and wait" o.O

Sorry, not much to go on. Are you afraid of an IBD diagnosis? Are you waiting for a final report from the doctors? You may just have to wait until you know more. Are you having any symptoms?

I am afraid of an IBD diagnosis. So far, I'm being tested for a metabolic disorder, a connective tissue disease, and various cancer markers by a geneticist at Childrens Hospital. I'm waiting for all those tests to come back too. I had a DEXA (bone density) scan today and if that comes back abnormal it means that steroids would be very very bad for me. I am sort of at my limit of things I can sanely handle.

I had mucus and bloody stool/diarrhea. The blood is often mixed in with the stool/diarrhea and not just streaks n the tp. Right now though I'm in a constipation stage. I've also lost about 10lbs in a month which is a lot for me, about 10% of my body weight. I've had a couple of doctors hint at an IBD diagnosis before. I guess I just wanted to know if the negative biopsies rule out any IBD diagnosis.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it is not IBD. Hopefully something transient.
