I don't want to go for a CT every time I feel pain, and I don't think they can do a resection and just remove the sigmoid and reconnect when a person has UC???
Good question and I am not sure, it may be up to the surgeon's discretion to do a resection and what they see during surgery. I do know that they will only operate so many times on a person who has diverticulitis before they remove the entire colon.
My father's BF has UC and diverticulitis and he had his colon leak/rupture and the surgeon only removed part of his colon and reconnected him. I'm not sure it is the medically ethical thing to do or not; I know that he still has colon issues when he eats.
