I'm so sick of being sick!

I was diagnoed with UC in 2010, and its only getting worsed. I am only 37 yrs old, sometimes I want to go out with friends to dinner or to a club but I'm scared. Anything I eat I void. Its so embarrasing, I've lost most of my friends due to UC. I'm scared to eat, but sometimes I get soooooo hungry that I can't stand it, so I eat, then again and again void everything I eat. Blood comes out with a yellow liquid.

UC is affecting my life, my relationship, my career, I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm trying to avoid steroids because I don't want to gain anymore weigh.

I'm on Asacol 800 mg, I take it 2xdaily.

I wish I could buy me a new ass (smiling). Maybe even a new intestine, or should I consider surgery? My life sucks

I'm just taking Asacol 800mg twice a day. Its not working though, I have another doctor's appoitment on June 4th.

It's weird how I gained weight after getting disgnosed with UC, most people loose weight.

The last time I got a colonoscopy was when I first got diagnosed 2010

What other meds have you been on? Have you ever taken more than two Asacols? I'm assuming you have been on prednisone before but don't want to take it again. So far it sounds like your doc hasn't done you right. You are all depressed because your treatment plan hasn't even been a good one. That's why you're always sick. When you are in remission and not flaring you should be taking at least three Asacols per day and while flaring you should be taking the max dose of six pills per day. It's no wonder you are always sick. Rectal meds should also be part of the picture. You're never going to get better if you don't treat it correctly in the first place. Do you have insurance? It almost sounds like you are poor, don't have insurance, and are trying to treat or not treat as cheaply as possible. There are many different options but it doesn't sound like you have done any of them. Are you taking any probiotics and have you done any dietary changes?

Things will get better when your are on the right therapy.  Most have had much of the same problems and had to try other meds or combinations of them.

I changed GI's and I'm so happy I've done so.  She has treated me successfully without the invasive exams.  Still I have to use rectal meds, a couple of months now but I'm not running to the bathroom every time I eat and can live a normal active life.

I hope to be able to be on Lialda only soon.

My doctor told me that my inflamation its about 2 inches, but I think is worse now. I deff need another colonascopy.

Uc has a tendency to spread upwards, when it is not well treated. I went from 14cms to 70-something in about a year's worth of time.

I've had only one colonoscopy, when I was initially diagnosed. I've had numerous flexible endoscopes done in my GI's office for diagnostic purposes: how bad is my inflammation, how far does it go, has a new treatment improved my inflammation etc. The in office ones are so much easier, no anesthesia, only prep is fleet enemas a few hours prior to exam, etc.

When uc is well treated, uc inflammation is reduced in both lenght and severity. In fact, when in remission, there is often no signs a patient had uc: no inflammation, no uc symptoms. Mind you, uc never truly goes away (it's your immune system attacking you) so meds are always needed.

Hi Dizzy, I know its difficult, but I would try not to have any alcohol until you get sorted out with the correct meds, because its going to confuse things a lot, you wont know whats working for you, many people with UC find alcohol to be a BIG trigger. I know you said you don't want to give that up, but I think that whilst your figuring out what works, it would be a good idea, then you can slowly see what you can take alcohol wise, I cant handle beer or wine myself, but recently I did have a couple of vodkas with no ill effects, so that's cheered me up!..keep us posted and let us know what your doc says.

Are you using any rectal meds. Your inflammation is so low down that oral meds sometimes don't get down that far.
I am using salofalk mesalasine enemas every night and they have really helped my proctitis/sigmoiditis. I now have no blood and am only going 2-4 times a day and this is after only using the enemas for three weeks. I also take 3600mg of Mezavant (Lialda) so I also think that your dose of Asacol is too low.

Hope you can get on the right meds soon and get some relief.

Did I forget to mentioned that everytime I eat, I have to go to the bathroom within 15 minutes :(
This is a nightmare, so depressing!!!!

UC since I've been 19 now 36 I started out on the asacol dose your on now and now I'm on 800mg four times a day in remission for about nine months now currently going thru a flare. For the last four weeks you have to find a formula that keeps you in remission for a peroid of time and when you have a flare to find a formula to put you back in remission and even than this disease will still screw with you. Dont let it, live your life learn to know what to expect from it and deal with it the best you can and live.

Who are you asking sugar crave ? Of your asking me I've gone up to two years with no flare ups, and have had flare ups that have put me in the hospital for up to two to three days.
