Proctitis-help-just diagnosed

First of all, I'm a 21 year old female. I was diagnosed with Proctitis 2 weeks ago by colonoscopy. I was passing blood (very large amounts) for 4 days and decided to go see a doctor. Without any exam or tests he ordered a colonoscopy right away. I had that done 2 days later & was prescribed Lialda once a day. 2 concerns with this medication..after 2 weeks I've seen zero improvement. & the prescription is 214$ For one month is that about normal? I'm miserably bloated all the time and just want to figure this out and move on with my life. If anyone has any advice to start feeling normal again I would appreciate it!

Certain medicines take awhile before kicking in. I'm not familiar with Lialda. I suggest you look it up on a rx website and learn as much as you can. I'm a little surprised that your doc didn't put you on prednisone or other steroid. They work almost immediately and are generally okay for short term use, especially if you are waiting for a slower medicine to start working. They can cause a lot of side effects, especially at high doses. If you are having no relief, call your doctor's office and ask for help. Advocate for yourself with this problem.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Though 2 weeks likely isn't long enough to see much in the way of results from Lialda, I too am surprised that your doc doesn't have you on rectal meds. My original DX was also proctitis, and I was given a scrip for Canasa suppositories to use once a day. Could be worth getting in touch with your doc and asking if he could give you a scrip for some sort of rectal med, as they are better for treating proctitis.

Yeah I'm willing to do a rectal med because I am so uncomfortable. I havent made a real BM in 2 weeks. They are so small. I feel like I can get everthing out. I will call the Dr today to see if we can do anything else. This has not been a good experience. I do have insurance but for some reason the lialda isn't covered by much. I can not afford $214 a month....hopefully we can find a cheeper option. I will update after I talk to my dr today. Thanks everyone.

If you fill it out, it instantly gives you the card and you can bring it to the pharmacy. My pharmacy will even let me use it for past scripts that i've filled sometimes. It lasts a year and you can reapply after a year to get a new card. I agree with the others, rectal medication would help. How many lialda pills are you taking?
