I've had reasonably mild UC for 9 years. In the last 2 years, I've been having watery anal discharge which is quite frequent. There is constant wetness in my anal area, and my underwear always has brown stains whenever I change them.

I've spoken to my specialist about this who says it's a normal symptom - I also just had a colonoscopy a month ago which showed the condition is under control, so I'm not worried from that perspective.

The discharge is quite a problem for me though and something I'd really like to fix. Has anyone else who's experienced this found a way to get it to stop? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've never had anal discharge, unless it was gas passed while having a flare or while using suppositories. I wouldn't say it's normal, but it does depend on what your cleaning habits are after bms, whether you're flaring, etc

What exactly does under control mean as per your c-scope? Do you have results from the biopsies pathology report? if not...I suggest you get a copy so you know what's actually going on.

What meds are you using at this point?

I dont think this is normal, I've not read anyone else having that on here, aside from the meds your taking, I'm just wondering if its something in your diet that's causing this to happen..maybe someone else will jump in with info...

I think it's weird that your doctor would say this is normal. It's definitely something that can happen if you are symptomatic but it shouldn't happen daily without reason. Do you feel anything when it happens? Is it related to UC? If you're not inflamed and you don't have active inflammation, I wouldn't imagine it is a symptom of UC. Have you tried steroid suppositories? Did you get checked for bacteria or hemorrhoids?

Ask them to send a sample of the fluid to the lab and ask for a tissue biopsy.

A new symptom (less than two years old) in an old condition should raise eyebrows, IME.

I can relate. I really wanted to see people's comments/advice. For me I've had for a few weeks now. I am not flaring, & no real food changes. I've had a few times in past. Don't recall how long it lasted nor how it went away. With it being Summer- especially NOT easy to deal with.

Thank you for the replies. In answer to your questions, I take mesalazine suppositories during a flare up, and granule sachets every day, regardless of flare ups. The condition is under control in that it's only the very last part of the bowel that's inflamed (so it's proctitis), and 2 weeks of mesalazine suppositories stop the bleeding when it's a flare up.

Does that extra info help?
