I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself. I just returned from a flight to and from Phoenix to Texas and it was really turbulent going there. I made sure before that I ate very carefully/little and was really "empty."

The entire flight going had the seat belt sign on and every time someone wanted to use the restroom they got scolded by the flight attendant. He let them use it...but then the announcement kept saying to please stay seated at all times unless it is an emergency.

Uhhhh...we do have to go to the bathroom don't we?!?! Imagine 2 1/2 hours of this. Fortunately I was empty enough to stay seated but really.....

You're lucky. That would make me very stressed and when I get stressed, I have to go!

I have never flown since having UC. Almost anywhere I would fly would be a long flight. Even when the sign isn't on I have tended to always find that there is a waiting line at the restroom and it you can't wait, you can't wait.

i've never been on a plane but the bathroom situation always scares the crap outta me! i'm glad you were okay.

I travel for work quite frequently, and that little sound over the plane's loudspeakers is probably my worst nightmare, ha! I usually have a quick conversation with a flight attendant right when I sit down to explain that if I have to go, I have to go. I haven't had an insensitive one yet! Just a few passengers who were frustrated when I politely declined to move my seat so they could stretch their feet into the aisle. One person even had the nerve to say "ew" when I explained why I needed the aisle seat. Ugh.

I fly frequently for work as well, and when that announcement comes over the speaker...I kind of panic too even though I'm in a remission. I'm usually pretty careful about what and how much I eat as well. I have this odd thing though, almost everytime I take my medication (Pentasta 2 pills, 3x daily) I have to empty out about 15 minutes later. So I have to "time" my medication as well! Glad you made it through the turbulent flight!

I have done lots of flying. Always do lots of immodium preflight. Had one incident where I HAD TO GO and it was mid decent, lol. They let me go with no issue. I think they can see the panicked look in our eyes, but it's a little stress reliever to know you have the option if need be.

I have done my share of flying since being diagnosed. Whether from Philly to Reno or from Philly to London, I load myself up on immodium and usually ask my GI for some pred just in case. I like others make sure I am "empty" as possible. One thing remains constant though, when I choose my seat - two things are a must for me. 1) It has to be an aisle seat and 2) the bathroom must not be no more than three rows in front or behind me. Knowing that plus the meds gives me piece of mind and I have yet to have any issues.

Bentyl is my solution. 3 months ago, I took 17 hours non-stop flight to India. I was pretty stressed a week before flying out, but 2 days before the flight, I reduced my food intake and started Bentyl 6 hours before boarding. No worries at all.

And standard precautions, visiting oval office as and when you notice it before boarding and visiting every 3 to 4 hours in flight.

After reading these comments...are we good or what? We have become so bodily aware that I think we are even better prepared than those without any bowel issues/problems.
