I've experimented with this and this is what I found -
Tryptophan is the precursor to 5HTP, but what's often omitted is that it that the conversion process only goes through with the help of carbohydrates. You need this to make that serotonin, and thus help your mood. This is why low carb or zero carb diets are problematic to some degree, as they reportedly cause depression.
A good ol' turkey or beef sandwich made with a safe carb source might help. I like mixing cane sugar in raw milk to help with this after workouts.
