infliximab success??

Hi, I had my first infliximab infusion yesterday afternoon after being in hospital for a week while my doctor tried to figure out what to do with me. I've tried 4 different medications that have not worked for me and my doctor says if the infliximab infusions don't work for me, the next step is a colectomy which is terrifying for me because I'm only 14 :(
I'm just wondering if anybody knows how successful the infliximab is and what are the chances or it working for me? thanks :)

Hi Emma, I am on remicade for 4 years, since first infusion I am in remission, and day before I was going 20 times or more a day in bathroom. There are hundreds of people on forum on Remicade or Humira with success. Be positive, take your remicade and in few months you will forget how sick you were. There are more options before colectomy...Good luck..

Remicade has 60%+ odds of improving a uc patient's symptoms (source: Page 7 How Effective Is Anti-TNF Treatment? http://www.ccfa.org/assets/pdfs/risk-and-benefits-transcript.pdf). You should know whether or not remicade is working by the time the initial loading doses are done (at 0, 2, and 6 weeks). Remi has worked well for me, I was prednisone dependent (did a year course of pred) and now I feel the best I have since before I had uc.

Hi Emma,

I hope Remicade works for you. I'm actually getting my first infusion as I type this right now! If Remicade doesn't work there are other biologics such as Humaira, and Entyvio that are worth a try before jumping into a colectomy. Hope the Remicade works for you and you don't even have to think about it at all.
