Thanks, toomuchpoopin. Whilst it seems that everyone I know, knows someone who has IBD, I only know one sufferer directly and she seems to have had a much easier time of it than me, i.e. remission means no symptoms for her.
To tell truth, I've also wondered whether SCD and Paleo are not helping with the mushy stools. I think they really helped calm things down in the beginning but now I wonder if I need some sort of bulkier food to normalise stools more. Plus, I know that drastically increasing your fruit and veg intake can affect the bowels of a healthy person, so must at least have the same affect on those of us with IBD...? Or at least, some of us. I actually had IgG blood tests done with a functional doctor that showed a strong reaction to grains (including rice and oats), so I will continue to avoid those... but am wondering at least about introducing sweet potatoes.
Anyway, I've bought some psyllium husk powder so will try incorporating that GRADUALLY in my diet (thanks for the info, kazbern - very helpful). I realise now that ispaghula husk IS psyllium husk, but the mixture I was taking also had flavouring and aspartame in it, so maybe this pure powder will be better. When I took the mixture before (Fybogel - don't know if it's a UK only thing) it seemed to firm my stools but make me go more often - so, small amounts about 5 times per day. So I discontinued after a few weeks of trying it. I'm willing to give it a shot with the powder though.
