Anyone think that maybe Asacol or Colazal made your symptoms worse?

Glad I found this topic. Im new to UC as well as this forum. Quick history, Last summer started noticing blood in my stool, thought I had fissure or internal hemorrhoid so I left it at that, finally after few months I went to Doctor had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with UC. Started on ASACOL 800mg 3per day for the last 2+ months and I think my symptoms are getting worse. Before taking Asacol I would have a few movements a day with a little blood now it seems if I eat anything within 10-15 min I need to got to bathroom and it is all blood and mucus, Im seeing GI in 2 weeks I think its time to try somthing else.

You won't get full treatment with ASacol...You need to add rectal mesalamine retention enemas to the mix...

Where exactly is your UC? limited to where or throughout?

I gradually got better over a one and a half month period. I was also mixing Probiotics with warm water and putting them up my butt. (Sorry for sounding so gross.) If I had known it was going to take so long, I would have visited my daughter and done fecal transplantation, using my granddaughter's feces. It took me three days to go into remission when I did fecal transplantation last time.

Could you please provide details on the fecal transplant? How long did you stay in remission? Did you take any antibiotics first?

I'm still in remission from the second time. I'm not sure how long it's been. A year? I did have to take antibiotics recently for an abscess in my mouth. I'm hoping I won't get another flare from it. I've read that flares can come anywhere up to two months after having taken antibiotics.

Could you please provide details on the fecal transplant?

I am not sure as to exact location, I was told I have inflammation lower part of the colon which is UC but also have inflammation somewhere else in the colon which is associated with Crohns, but my symptoms are pointing towards UC so that's the treatment were are trying. I forgot to list Canasa which I am also taking but still no relief.

My GI has that theory that pregnancy hormones are usually very good for putting UC into remission. But, usually as well, everything is going down when your hormons' levels are drastically going down a month or two after the delivery.
In my experience - my first pregnancy, I had mild UC, and was only on Colazal. I stopped taking it, after delivery, breastfed for a month and then got a mild flare up. With my second pregnancy, I've already was in remission before, and because I had NO symptoms at all, stopped taking Colazal at all. After delivery there were some symptoms but I put them down with suppositories. So there could be something to that theory and not only "bug" could cause your post-delivery symptoms but your lowering hormones as well.

Hello All,

Just found this topic as I'm taking Pantasa and Asacol for 7 years. Two months ago I had a severe bleeding flare up so I thought to stop taking Pantasa an switch to Asacol. I was fine for a day and again very bad flare up. So i stopped Asacol and within 3 days I was so good that I had never been in years. I was in remission for a month and started having diarrhea again but no blood. Then I told my doctor and he just said do Never stop Asacol... I knew I had something wrong with Asacol therefore I've talked to 4 different Gastro and they all denied Asacol relation with worsening symptoms... So I'm on Asacol for a month now again and I just got worse everyday...

And now this topic is just a relief.

has anybody have PSC together with UC? If yes, I'm really interested to know what do you do for maintenance?

Highly appreciate any tip.

My son also seemed to have worsening symptoms while on Asacol. He stopped the Asacol and his symptoms cleared up for a while. We opted for Fecal Transplants rather than medication and it worked wonderfully for him. He also has PSC. Do you have this as well, or are you just inquiring about it?

That class of drugs was given to me when I was first diagnosed. I'm intolerant to the drug as it made my symptoms much worse. For example, severe cramping, blood, etc...
