BM causing nausea

Hello everyone! I hope most of us are past the point of being delicate, so here goes: has anyone else had severe nausea during and for hours after a BM? This has been off and on for about a week, then every time for a few days now. I'm scared to eat because the nausea is so bad. Zofran doesn't help, and Phenergan (promethazine) just knocks me out. I fight to not vomit and was successful until yesterday. My GI was not helpful (all he did was call in the promethazine). Any ideas as to the cause? It's stinky but not that stinky! Thanks!

I used to get nausea sometimes right before and during a bm. Sorry I'm not much help....but....what is up with your name?!

i usually experienced nausea during my bm's so i'd throw up in a trash can in front of me. i was usually good until my next bm which was always soon anyway!! this has happened during all of my flares and i usually threw up about 10x a day. i felt bad for wasting all the food i ate haha it left me so fast.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you on imuran or 6mp by any chance? I literally had 24/7 nausea on imuran, though it simmered down after 2-3 months on it. I was also told to take anti nausea medications, but didn't opt to do so.

For my particular situation, I just stopped taking it eventually (it turned out the 5ASAs were doing their thing and I didn't need it anymore).

Bananagirl: I have the same set up now! But now I'd rather not eat so I don't have to deal with it. No bueno, I know. Does nicotine really help? Were you ever a smoker? I don't know if I could try it...

Guardian 7: thank you for the welcome. MDs have suggested Imuran and 6-mp but I'm pretty scared of those. I guess I should set up a profile with past med history. Currently only on Remicade q6-8wks but never really in true remission (does that make sense?) and Zofran PRN. I've tried 5ASAs in the past with no success. I love/hate prednisone. Was on that x2yrs, avoid it like the plague since it took forever to wean off. Just on liquid diet for past few days. It's really bringing me down. I love food!!

yeah, it was kind of depressing. we have three bathrooms in our house and i always left the trash can in front of the toilet just so i'd have a "set up" for wherever i was located in the house at the time!! i know it annoyed my family but whatever.

as for nicotine, it has been what i owe my health to. i could not get off prednisone without it. i still take my other meds though just for the heck of it. i have never smoked anything in my life so i started slow with the 4 mg lozenges. i use the patch now.

My girl is an easy puker-sometimes from pain sometimes from the hiatial hernia that acid created. Nausea is common. We all think is is the drug we are currently on, but it is hard to know. Pain can cause it. Just be careful, as it could be a blockage and that is obviously dangerous.

Because of the cramping before and during BM's when flaring I get pretty sick to my stomach. Dizzy and sweaty. Personally, I think this is do to the pain that is associated with UC.

Are you in a flare? Or is this just during regular BM?

For me, nausea means in in a flare and I need to step up my treatment.

Hey uch8er, ive had that problem too! Its so annoying and it made me avoid food too... My advice would be to give peppermint a shot. It helps relieve the cramping/nausea and should give you some relief. I just drink the herbal tea but ive seen some people on here take it in a capsule form.

Peppermint is a good idea! I even have some peppermint tea...it smells like Christmas. Pain can definitely cause nausea, but usually I'm shaking with pain by then. This nausea feels like my innards are rearranging themselves after a BM. I actually feel it moving up my esophagus. Never felt that before. I'm think I'm in denial of being in a flare. Dang!

Sounds pretty bad. I hope you get some relief soon :) and don't be in denial!!! Thats the worst-its why I got so bad a month ago. I ignored all the warnings and tried to keep up my usual lifestyle. Just take that first step and recognize whats goin on!

UC8 I have the same problem.  Had it before I was diagnosed with UC at times and ever since being diagnosed regardless of what meds I have been on.  Fortunately, I just have the nausea and do not usually vomit.  It is the worst when everything is backed up and there is lots of stool throughout colon.  Have not had an explanation from any doc yet that makes sense as to why this is happening.
