I did the intro diet and pretty much phase 1 stuff, twice this summer. I ended up losing too much weight, something I could ill afford to do. I have since been pretty much SCD, with lapses here and there. It definitely works for some people, and although I cannot declare remission, I am doing pretty well on just Asacol.
I bought the ebook package from the guys at scdlifestyle.com. It walks you through the intro diet and phases in careful, step by step detail. If you also want to read all the science behind the diet (which is what attracted me to it--it makes sense to me), buy the "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" book. If you just want to get started on the diet and have it all laid out for you, even tutorials on how to cook basic stuff for best results, get the ebooks from scdlifestyle.com. I don't get any kickback or anything for mentioning them. One downside is that you will get a lot of emails from them....some commercial-ish, some motivational, etc.
I was already eating 90% paleo, so the change was not that big for me. If you eat pretty much the SAD right now, the change will be greater, and it will probably be easier to see if it's something that will work for you. One tip: I wouldn't mess with the yogurt making right off the bat. I know the book recommends it, but when you are already dealing with cooking all the food for the intro diet, etc., it might be too much. Plus, it's like super duper yogurt, and you may not do well with it right away.
Another site I like is ihaveuc.com. He is a "younger" guy, with a great sense of humor about
the disease, and he tells it like it is. Check out his videos on his site, or on youtube, to get an idea. That's a good community, too.
You don't HAVE to buy any books to start the SCD, of course. Good luck.
