I had a colonoscopy Tuesday and besides the prep being awful, everything went fine. I was still inflamed and showing issues by the rectum but everything else looked much better than a year ago. My GI took a lot of biopsies of areas to make sure histologically I was also not inflamed. Also, thought I should mention I received my Remicade on Monday.
The day after the scope I felt a little nauseous and just off but alright. Thursday I felt still nauseous and bloated, i took some over the counter meds for it. Thursday night I went to bed just feeling awful and woke up in the middle of the night with major stomach pains and threw up a lotttt. I barely slept the rest of the night and then Friday morning I was still in excruciating pain and threw up the gatorade and water I tried to drink. Also had diarrhea. The pain was in my abdomen but radiated into my chest and back. I have never had pain like this in my almost 4 years of having UC. It felt like trapped gas or air so I tried laying in a million positions, I took gas-x and prilosec and zantac, but nothing worked. My GI wasn't returning my calls so I decided I needed to go to the ER at least for an IV to be hydrated.
I hate the ER! but once I was finally admitted they hooked me up to an IV, gave me an anti-nausea med and something for the pain. They did a chest x-ray and an abdominal CT scan to make sure nothing had perforated from the colonoscopy (ER Dr said that usually happens on day 7 though).
All of my tests and blood work were normal, so they gave me zofran and an anti-spasmodic for the pain and sent me home. I am still feeling nauseous and have diarrhea. I haven't thrown up again but still have some pain and trouble eating.
Anyone else experience something similar after a colonoscopy?
I'm not sure if it's a stomach bug or something related to the colonoscopy. My mom says she's also felt nauseous but she hasn't thrown up or had the diarrhea, so I don't know if we have a stomach bug or not but i don't think our cases are related.
Thanks!!
