My daughter has UC, she is not responding well to regular treatments of Imuran and Prednisone. She is 17, her hemoglobin was down to 60 last week and has been getting Iron infusions once a week for three weeks now. she now has to be put on remicade and that drug scares me! I am waiting for the new drug to be approved in Canada called Entyvio, does anyone know if she is on Remicade and decides to try Entyvio if there will be a problem? Anyone, please help.

Not sure about canada, but here in the US you have to have tried and failed at least one other biologic (like remicade) in order to be approved for entyvio.

There is no problem switching for remi to entyvio....my doc said I needed at least 6 to 8 weeks after my last remi infusion before I could start entyvio.

Itll be the same here as it is in the states (requiring you to fail one biologic before trying entyvio). Ive heard that it is supposed to be approved either very late this year or very early next year.

BUT, if she does start Remicade and it works, I would NOT under ANY circumstances switch to Entyvio. We only have so many options with this disease and if something works, you stay on it. Over time Remicade will fail, and that is the time to try Entyvio

Once you start Remicade I would suggest that you don't stop it unless you feel it is not working. Often times you cannot restart Remicade at a later date once it has been stopped, taking away a future treatment option in most cases. That wouldn't be a good idea if you stopped the Remicade just to try the Entyvio and then found that the Entyvio did not work. Several here have recently started Entyvio and so far have not seen any incredible results yet. Apparently it does take a couple of months before it starts working and most of these people haven't reached that point yet. Several post successes with Remicade. I'm not having a prejudiced opinion here but merely want to warn you of the possibilities. I personally would rather try Entyvio first before Remicade. It seems to have a higher success rate and is safer, according to the studies anyway.
