CDN26, let's be clear. There is a disease called Ulcerative Colitis, which affects the colon. The rectum is part of the colon (it is the very end of the colon).
The condition of inflammation in the colon is called colitis (small "c"). You can have colitis due to UC, Crohn's, infection, ischemic stroke, etc.
The OP no longer has colitis (small "c") but she still has UC, and it is actively affecting her rectum, perhaps a part of her sigmoid colon.
I wasn't there when her GI told her that her colitis was in remission. Perhaps he meant the small c kind, but what the OP heard was that her UC was in remission, except for her rectum. I can understand how this is confusing to the OP and to many other people. I regret that the OP's GI failed to accurately communicate his meaning. Meanwhile the OP is wondering why she doesn't feel well when she's supposed to be "in remission."
Proctitis is a ***** to get rid of. It can take a really long time. I think I used rectal meds for years before I was clear of inflammation there. And proctitis can make you legitimately miserable, with urgency, and gas, and sometimes even upper GI problems. OP, your GI should take your complaints seriously.
