My daughter is tapering pred and is on 6MP. Is it safe to give flu shots when a person has UC?

Yes, the shot itself is safe. The flu mist wouldn't be recommended, as it's a live attenuated virus.

My GI had me get a flu shot. He also wanted me to get the Pneumovax vaccine for pneumonia, but I did not get that one.

Yes, it is safe for a person with UC to get a flu shot as long as it is NOT a live variant. This is important as both Prednisone and 6mp suppress your daughter's immune system and as such the
live
vaccine would cause trouble...
I got the glue shot last year and will again this year. They gave me a needle in the shoulder for it. No problems afterwards.

We (compromised immune systems) are the ones that need the flu shot the most. At my PCP's office when the first batch of Flu vaccines come in I am on the list that they call first and recommend the shots. People who are healthier have to wait until larger supplies of the vaccine are available at my PCP's office. That's how important they think the shots are for people with compromised immune systems.

Yes it is okay to do the shot. Not the flu mist.

Considering that vaccines aren't the hidden cause of the crazy immune system in the first place.....

Actually highly recommended! I have had tetanus, hepatitis b, pneumonia, flu each year, etc...however, I am also a nurse and exposed to most of these on a daily basis...so being on Humira I'm slightly obsessive
