Would a different type work if one has stopped. I'm on pentasa. Would it be worth trying another such as asocol

You could try another form and it may or may not help. The delayed release coating on the meds is different. That results in a different point in the large intestine in which the medication is released, and a different release-rate of said medication. It's the same amount of active ingredient though so I would not expect miraculous results.

I was on Pentasa and it was working well, once my pharmacist issued a different tablet and within a week my symptoms were raging. Again, six months later but this time my GI switched me to Salofalk granules, within a few weeks the symptoms were creeping back again. I went back each time to Pentasa and the problems ceased. For me, they definitely worked very differently (or didn't work at all !!) I would give it a try, no harm.
